We will probably end up staying in the Horizon because of the financial situation at WSU that keeps getting deeper in the hole every day in the news for now. We might be here until the conference implodes on itself. WSU made major cuts this year to boost it's reserves by 6 million so that we can avoid fiscal watch by the state. We are still on track to do that this year. We are going to have a lean budget the next few years as we get our finances back to where they should be. Our faculty is not happy about it because Wright State is leaning towards eliminating some degree programs that are not making money and combining some of the colleges. Those decisions should have been made years ago but we had an idiot as our president. We made a good hire with our current president and I have every confidence that she will get this ship straightened out. In regards to Wright State leaving the HL, we need to put together some post season success if we want to be seriously considered by a desirable conference. The HL's regression as a conference should actually help our chances of having that success. If we can dominate this league over the next 4-5 years and Wright State gets it's finance in order over that same period of time, we have a good chance to be the next school to make the jump to a better conference. I have faith our new president and Nagy can get us there. The MVC considered going to 12 teams last year. They wanted Valpo. They also liked Murray State but couldn't come up with a worthy 12th member since Belmont shot them down. If we can go to the NCAAs 3+ times in the next 5 years I think we have a good shot at being that worthy 12th team.

We don't control our own destiny when it comes to conference affiliation but Raider Alumni is right about making ourself more appealing to potential suitors. Nothing makes you look more appealing than success. This team is coming together much quicker than I think any of expected. I was hoping for an above 500 record and top 4 finish in the HL this year. The way we are playing in comparison to the rest of the HL, I honestly don't see a reason why we can't compete for the title. With the guys we have returning and the recruiting class we have coming in, the future looks really bright for the basketball program.
In regards to the HL, I hope they turn things around but we need to worry about ourselves. If the HL bounces back, great. If it doesn't, we need to position ourself to be the next successful team ready to make the jump to a higher rated conference.
As fans, we can help by attending games and donating to athletics and/or the university. The sooner we get our finances straightened out the better.

Just did little curiosity check to see how the HL is doing statistically this year so I went to sports-reference.com. It, uh..it could be better. Here is every HL player in the top 20 of any statistical category: Justin Mitchell tied for 6th with 3.3 steals per game, 7th in steal% at 6.5 Kendrick Nunn, Oakland senior - Tied for 15th in points per game and 17th in minutes per game. Tyree Robinson, YSU freshman - tied for 18th in 2-point % with 16 fg attempts to his name. Jaleel Hogan, Detroit senior - tied for 13th with 21 total personal fouls Garrett Covington, YSU freshman, 19th in true shooting percentage at .782, 12th in offensive rating So that's what we've got right now. Everyone has fallen off from last year. Dixson has gone from being a top tier scorer to 14.3 ppg. Odiase is 59th in the country in blocks per game. Others have graduated, transferred, or changed leagues. Mitchell and Nunn are the truth, but there's not a lot after them. More on this story as it develops (and hopefully improves) throughout the season. And now that non-conference play is over, here's where we are... - Carson Williams, NKU Soph - ranks 8th in fg% at .682, 12th in EFG% at .701 - Kendrick Nunn, Oakland senior - tied for 9th in 3-pointers made with 44, tied for 11th in Threes Attempted attempted at 108, 7th in scoring average at 23.5ppg - Grant Benzinger - tied for 7th in FT% at .946 - Kameron Chatham, Detroit Junior - tied for 17th in Defensive Rebounds at 92 - Tai Odiase, UIC Senior -tied for 11th in blocks at 38, 9th in blocks per game at 3.2 per game - Loudon Love - 19th in Total Rebound % at 20.1

FWIW in December...Lunardi has Northern Kentucky getting the auto bid and ranked 61 out of his 68 teams. Narrowly avoiding the First Four games.

Hmmm. Wonder if Kampe is safe from a new AD coming in. Lots of fans up there think it’s time for him to go.

Horizon League can't drop much farther, now ranked 30th out of 32 Conferences. Horizon is only ahead of the Mid-Eastern and the Southwestern Athletic Conferences. Conference RPI ranking today is getting stronger, now ranked 25th. The SWAC must be envious of the Horizon League's new bragging rights...

NKU starter Jalen Tate was injured last night against Youngstown State. Seems unclear how long it will effect him right now.

Little bit of news in this. Neely (sp?) hurt his knee in the loss to UIC, coach Kampe said he was last seen on crutches last night.
