After a lackluster opening weekend (3-5 vs. DI comp) the HL had a semi-decent Monday.
Oakland improved to 2-0 with a win over New Orleans (87-68)
UDM and IUPUI both had unimpressive wins over non D I opponents.
UIC blew an 11 point lead at home with less than 5 minutes and a 7 point lead with less than 1 minute to St. Joe's in overtime, falling 86-82.
Milwaukee impressed with a win at Iowa State to go to 2-0 with a 74-56 victory over the Cyclones.

Green Bay lost at NIU's home opener, 85-65.
Cleveland State was routed by Rutgers, 70-38.
Youngstown State walloped D III Franciscan in the Baron's 1st D I exhibition game of the year, 134-46. FWIW, the Baron's were picked 8th (out of 10) in their preseason D III Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. For YSU fans it's one step closer to the "coveted" 20-win mark.

UCLA, without their 3 China convicts, needed overtime to escape Central Arkansas (106-101).
Western Kentucky notched their first win of the season with a win over non D I Kentucky Wesleyan.
Gardner-Webb tripped to 0-3 in their leisurely tour of the Sunshine State.
Missouri State improved to 2-0 with a home win against Southern.
UMES at St. Bona was cancelled (with no makeup date anticipated) as the campus experienced its 2nd campus-wide blackout in months leaving technicians and engineers perplexed to the cause.

Clemson, uncomfortably, gets by Ohio U. Fans question if Ohio was hungover like their secret scrimmage or if Brownell was preoccupied in his quest for a better gig.
Flames repel hornets, 95-55.

Not surprising, NKU gains victory over 4th U.S. President. NCAA is investigating if Russia meddled in outcome.
Vikings garner first victory of year over a win-less Coppin State.
Phoenix rise to blast D III Lakeland (preseason poll voted 8th out of 11 in their conference). And before the peanut gallery chimes in....U-W-G-B still plays Florida A&M, Stetson, Wisconsin Parkside, Rockford, and Eastern Illinois. SMH.
Speaking of EIU, at best mediocrity, and schools that have mascots with no connection to the either the Institution or geographic area....Panthers > Jaguars.

Hope I'm not stealing mrose's thunder here.
Oakland proved that it still remembers how to shock fans and lose games everyone thought they'd win in a 87-74 road loss to Toledo.
In more surprising news, our future opponent Kent State loses to Division 3 Hanover...with a score of 103-49. No, that is not a typo.

Hanover beat Kent State Tuscarawas, not the D1 team.

Games of interest over the weekend...
HL goes 2-5 vs. mid-majors Sat.
WSU loses at home vs previously win-less (D I comp.) Murray State.
UIC blown out at home to HL reject P.U. Fort Wayne (67-51).
Relative newcomer to HL Norse pillage Iona, 85-72
Oakland loses to former HL coach at Toledo, 87-74.
Detroit embarrassed by Seattle (71-102) with the Redhawks first and only D I victory of year, so far.
Penguins remain in search of first win after being ambushed by win-less Canisius, 104-84.
Sunday's results:
Milwaukee escapes at home from Elon, 72-71
NKU slapped with first loss of season to a respectable Vermont team.
UDM sneaks past win-less Houston Baptist, in overtime, 116-108.
After one full week of schedule (still early) RPI metrics have HL rated 28th or below (out of 32).

Monday's results:
HL accumulates another losing day vs. D I Comp.
Cleveland state trips to a mediocre East Carolina, 69-72.
U-W-G-B puts up a fight in Starkville, but falters in end, 77-68.
One of HL's projected top teams, Oakland, not much of a test for the Orangemen.
