Go on the road, win, and drop 4+ spots. Shows how weak the HL is...

It is what it is. We are going to keep dropping as the season goes on because the HL has way too many 300+ RPI teams right now. All we can do is keep winning.

Our RPI will be influenced a lot by how the OOC teams do now. Wins will keep us from falling too much.

Our RPI will be influenced a lot by how the OOC teams do now. Wins will keep us from falling too much. Doc, that isn't how RPI works. The RPI equation is 25% is your winning percentage, 50% is your opponent's winning percentage, 25% is your opponent's opponent's winning percentage. HL games have a much much larger impact on our RPI than OOC games because they make up 2/3 of our games. We are currently 67. We are only predicted to have a final RPI around 110. I hope there are enough OOC upsets in our favor and we get good enough match ups in the HL tournament that we can get that under 100. Like everyone else, I am hoping for a post season birth this year and the lower our RPI is the better seed we can potentially get.

143 in kenpom rankings, way better and less archaic method.

Our RPI will be influenced a lot by how the OOC teams do now. Wins will keep us from falling too much. Sorry, Doc, but the math just ain't there to support that. We have more 300+ RPI programs to play than we've already played (played 3...4 more to go...) No more sub 100 programs and we only have 2 more games vs. sub 200 RPI opponents (OU and NKU). With more than 1/3 of our D I schedule remaining the numbers...RPI numbers...are against us...no matter how the OOC teams do.

It is nice to be worried about RPI for a change and who our OOC foes win or lose too. I don’t remember this happening in a long time.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this, Kenpom includes analytics from last season I believe. I think I saw Kenpom tweet that and he said those drop out on Jan 22, so that should bump our Kenpom score up I would think. Doesn't really matter, but someone posted our Kenpom score. I may have misinterpreted the tweet though

hh, what i think we are witnessing is the beginning of a gradual progression of this program and these fans from a “we need to win the post season hl tournament” to get in the dance, to a “what do we need to do to build our rpi up” to have a shot at an at large selection. that to me is an exciting transformation and a long overdue one.

Keith, that might be true but, we won't know until we see future schedules. Hopefully, that includes finding money to bring in some good teams. Power 5 schools would help but any top 25-30 ( RPI ) teams would do the trick. I would expect the team will upgrade the schedule as they get better but, really have no margin of error when it comes to at-large bids ( and this year probably blew it with an 0-3 start ).

Beating Georgia Tech on the road sure felt like an NCAA Tournament win to me. If there was a turning point in this program's rise to relevancy, that to me was it. Not only did it boost our RPI, but it seems to be the catalyst for this teams fantastic start in the HL regular season.

That GT game was huge and you have to say the Oakland and NKU games were big. Actually as far getting in the NCAA we will need to win the Horizon Tournament so RPI is only going to be a seeding instrument this year.

I agree 100% BasketBall Jones, the neat thing about the Georgia Tech win was that they were in a major conference more than beating that particular team. Not sure what our RPI would be but, even if we were undefeated ( as nice as some of those wins would have been ) not sure any would qualify as quality in the eyes of the selection committee. Such is life as a mid-major.

I guess I wasn’t totally clear about RPI. I meant any positive influence on RPI will come from OOC teams winning. Murray State Lost to Belmont which didn’t help with RPI. But I want us to continue to win.
