I can't see Nagy leaving us for USU. I can't imagine them offering him a lot more money than he's making and he's already laid out a pretty good setup for him to get looks from P5 schools in the next year or two here.

Evansville hired Walter McCarty....Former UK player, 10-year NBA player, Evansville Native, and an assistant coach on Brad Stevens staff the past 5 years with the Celtics. That's probably a really good hire for the Aces...should create some positive buzz around the program.

Well that really sucks to hear, but it's to be expected, I suppose. Considering our current financial crisis and the fact that we wouldn't be able to meet or exceed a higher offer (without private donors, I guess?) I could certainly see Nagy bolting for greener pastures. Hope that isn't' the case.

The former coach at Utah State had a $375K salary with incentives up to another $100k/year. Scott's base at Wright State is $500K.
If Scott were interested in the USU job it wouldn't be due to $$$, but rather a significant step-up in conferences....

They are throwing a lot of money around. That is a proud program that has been trending downward since Stew retired and they are willing to go spend a lot more than $500,000.

Really not sure what you mean when you say they're throwing a lot of money around. Their men's basketball budget is slightly less than $3.3m. Ours is slightly over $3m. We're in the same zip code when it comes to men's basketball. Their total athletic budget is triple ours thanks to them sponsoring FBS Football. Heck, their Football Budget is approx. 90% of our Total Budget.
They've had success over the years, but nothing recent. Their success came when they dominated the WAC. If they believe they should compete with Nevada, UNLV, San Diego State, and New Mexico for the upper echelon of the Mtn. West then they will have to significantly increase their men's basketball budget. I don't see them taking $$$ from football, but maybe they have some wealthy donors willing to step up.

I just don't see Nagy leaving for this type of job. He is a very deliberate man in the way he approaches life and basketball. He always seems to look at the big picture and not the quick fix solutions. You can see that in the way he recruits and red-shirts players. In his first year here he could have played Lou or Everett to try to have a more successful first season. He played with a short bench (and still had a good year) because he knew those guys would be better 4 year players after a red-shirt year. You saw the same thing this year. We were in the middle of a title run and could have burned James Manns red-shirt year or taken Justin Mitchell back on the team to try to win the HL and give us a better chance to win a game in the NCAAs. He stuck to his guns and did what he thought would be in our long term best interest. I think he would use that same logic in his career decisions. I see Nagy looking at the big picture. He has a great team coming back along with a great recruiting class coming in. The HL is also very weak. He has a chance to rule this league for the next couple of years and win his first NCAA tournament game. I don't think he jumps to a rebuild job like Utah State for similar money to what he is already getting here when he can keep building his resume here and eventually make a jump to a power 5 job that he really want to end up at. Nagy is also very big into his family. He just uprooted them to come to WSU 2 years ago. I don't see him doing that to them again for another stepping stone type job. I don't doubt that Nagy's time here is limited but I don't see him leaving for anything less than a power 5 job IMO. When Nagy does end up leaving us, I really hope we hire from within. Associate head coach Brian Cooley is a rising star in the coaching world. He has been Nagy's right hand man for years and his recruiting coordinator. We didn't have much luck the last time we promoted from within with Donlon, but Cooley is no Donlon. I think he would be a great head coach for us.
