Holy cow! They have Diamond Girls at Ole Miss. There is like 30 of them. I will have to dig up a photo to post. Wright State needs Diamond Girls too. I think they promote and maybe cheer on the baseball team. Attachments:diamond girls.jpg_large (118.08 KB)

I think they promote and maybe cheer on the baseball team. We have diamond girls in Dayton too. Oh, wait, that might be the wrong Diamond girls. But I hear they say they're broke college girls working to pay for tuition and books. So, maybe...?? Anyhow, MLB TV had a segment on the student section at Ole Miss. I particularly like the beverage toss, but really hope we don't see that this weekend!

It's game day and an exciting day for Wright State athletics!
NCAA.com, D 1 Baseball and College Baseball News all have the WSU vs. Ole Miss series as one of their top-10 opening weekend series to watch. That's interesting in-and-of itself as there are some major college programs playing head-to-head this weekend (e.g., Vandy, TCU, Cal-State Fullerton in a round-robin, Long Beach State vs. Florida, St. John's vs. UCLA, Notre Dame vs. Arizona State, etc.). One of the D 1 Baseball writers, David Seifert, picked WSU to win the series down in Oxford.
All games are on SEC+ and if you're subscribed to the SEC Network via your cable or satellite provider and can watch the games for free (No ESPN+ subscription required). Today's Game time is 5 PM Eastern.
Pitching, for both sides, will be the key to the series. For Ole Miss all 3 weekend starters will be making their D 1 college debut as a starter. Today's starter is the only one who pitched for the Rebels last year, but they were all relief appearances. Tomorrow's starter is a highly recruited JUCO Transfer and Sunday's starter is a true freshman. The freshman was selected 36th overall in last year's MLB draft by the Pirates and he declined a $2 Million signing bonus and opted to play for Ole Miss. This spring he's been consistently throwing 92-93 mph, but I expect him to be in the mid-90's Sunday.
Though there's a good chance for scattered showers this afternoon I expect to see a nearly full ballpark with a raucous crowd. FWIW, Ole Miss set an all-time sales record for season tickets sold this year. 7,100+. Hopefully they go home disappointed after the first weekend.

That was pretty damn ugly. I said it will come down to pitching...All 10 runs scored by Ole Miss were earned on only 11 hits. Though the runs were earned defense didn't help out. Today's game it didn't look like the team went over simple fundamentals in the off season. A) a runner on third shouldn't be able to tag up and score on a popup hit 30 feet behind 2nd base and the center fielder be caught by surprise the runner is tagging. B) a dropped third strike shouldn't result in runner coming in to score because the catcher didn't look him back to 3rd and then make a lazy ass throw (lob) to 1st. Good high school teams don't make those mistakes.
