Our remaining big men are a combined 2 of 20 tonight. Here we go. Guess that would include the 0 for 0 stat line for Manns. Even if Manns is a detriment on defense, it seems like his raw athleticism would give hime an edge on Parker. Still wish he had gotten more minutes in the OOC games to develop his game. You might as well accept it. Manns is not going to play this year. He played at the end of the game with the walk ons when we played the non D1 games. If he couldn't get meaningful minutes in those games, he isn't going to see the court in HL action unless it is a huge blowout. My personal guess is that he isn't a Raider next year. With the additions of Basile, Thielemans, and Holden next year his bid for playing time only gets harder. I don't see him sticking around and I don't think Coach Nagy is going to be disappointed if that happens.

I don't know if Manns will be here or not next year but if he does come back he is going to need to step up his effort in practice and the weight room. That is where playing time is earned. He came in as a 205 lbs freshman last year. After a year in the weight room he only put on 5 lbs and is a 210 lbs red shirt freshman this year. For comparison sake, Jaylon Hall came in last year at 175 lbs and now weights 190 lbs. Bill Wampler weighed 200 lbs last year and bulked up to 220 lbs when he was told he was going to be needed at the 4 this season after Winchester transferred. I fully expect Basile and Thielemans to make the most of this red shirt year and put on some good bulk for next year. Manns has the same access to the weight room as his teammates. If he wants to play more next year he knows what he needs to do.

I don't think Manns is going to get much playing time the rest of this season unless we have some unforeseen injuries. I think it is way too early to write him off. He is only a red shirt freshman. Hopefully the lack of playing time this season is the kick in the butt he needs to step up his effort level at practice and in the weight room going forward. I've said this before, Nagy likes to play a veteran team. He really likes to red-shirt most players so that his team on the court is mostly 3rd/4th/5th year players that have years of experience in his system. They are physically and emotionally more mature. He is never going to be able to field that type of team here if guys transfer out after 1 disappointing season. Manns might not do much for us this year. He may come back next year as a 225# motivated monster that could be a difference maker for us. I really hope he comes back. He has a lot of potential.

I guess I knew it somewhere in my brain this truth but big d’s comment brought it to mind. We only have four real wins this season, 1/3 of our wins are glorified exhibitions against non div i teams. when you write that down it seems really ugly.
I think we way way underestimated how much we would miss Winchester and losing hall just made it that much worse. Last night I kept thinking guys like potter should be attacking the rim but no one ever did. Instead we kept firing up 3’s and missing them at an alarming rate. I am not sure how coach feels about it but 40 3’s seems excessive to me. I watched a number of those shots be put up early in the shot clock, often a shot that could be had at any time.
One other thought. If the loss of one player has resulted in this team being as ineffective as they have been might we have been a little overrated in the preseason?? Maybe , maybe not. But I think this may be a long season if we do not figure something out soon.

Keith, I think the last sentence hits the spot. I think 6 of the losses have been 7 points or less. Thought we'd be clicking by now but, it could still come.
Last night I felt good at half because we shot poorly and we were only down 3. When Loudon got fired up after a little altercation he seemed to carry that emotion and thought we'd win by double digits.
Hopefully, tomorrow proves to be a better day.

I would love to know how that correlates to our Ws and Ls this year. My theory is that we win more games when we shot less than 1/2 of our shots from 3. In my opinion, we are a much better team when we try to score from a variety of ways. I was thinking the same thing, however the numbers are nearly identical. Percentage of Shots Taken from 3-Point: In Wins: 43.6% In Losses: 44.7% WSU is actually 4-3 when 44%+ of shots are from 3 2-5 otherwise

I hope that was sarcasm. This was an embarrassment for us and the HL. Both teams played like shitty high school teams the way neither team could buy a basket most of the game. +1 Not to beat a dead horse, but to add more color to my comment about the "good exposure" comment and my already known opinion of the ESPN+/HL partnership here's some data. The Dec. 28 game between UIC/WSU didn't make cable's Top-25 shows for the day. ESPN led the way with 9 shows in the Top-25, but the UIC/WSU game wasn't one of those shows. Ancient Aliens airing at 1 in the Morning came in at #24 in the key demo (Age 19-49). In fact, the UIC/WSU game didn't make the Top-50, Top-100, or...wait for it...Top-150 shows. Heck, Extreme Cake Makers on the Cooking Channel came in at #120. I didn't even know there's a Cooking Channel, but my research shows it's a spinoff of The Food Network. So, 107k people viewed Extreme Cake Makers on a spinoff channel at 11 PM, but the UIC/WSU game didn't make the Top-150. The show with the least viewership in the Top-150 (Golic & Wingo) had 67k viewers and that was at 6 AM. And we got good national exposure?!?!?! SMH. Lastly, for the first time in history and since its launch in 1993 ESPN2 won't finish in 2nd place, behind ESPN, for the year (2018) in sports channel ratings. ESPN2 didn't even finish 3rd in ratings. NBCSN, thanks to the 2018 Winter Olympics, finished the year #2 in sports channel ratings. FS1 came in #3.
