This team has Jekyll & Hyde shooting nights. The defense seems to show up every night, but shooting the ball is a different story. Last nights game is a perfect example. They had wide open looks all night and struggled to make shots. 2-15 from 3 in the first half. If they hit just 3 more of those they would have been up double digits at the half and probably won going away in the 2nd half. Then they fell asleep offensively after building a 14 point lead and nearly lost the game. Wampler seems to epitomize our shooting highs and lows. Some nights he's hot, and other nights like the first game vs Milwaukee at home, he goes 0-9. If they shoot well, they have an excellent shot at back to back NCAA bids. Go Raiders!

Wampler has wild swings from behind the arc, but I still think he is as close to automatic as it gets when he takes the ball to the hoop. There are few angles that he can’t bank from and his size makes shot blocking difficult

Phelps, didn't see the game ( tried to add ESPN+ but just can't get it to work...was able to watch the Lady Raiders on ESPN3 yesterday though ). Anyway, it may also suggest that they overplayed the threat of the 3 and Bill was able to have a path to the basket. If you are open you should take the 3 or, at least, do it often enough to keep the defense honest.

I’m very nervous about this game and the path that we have as a whole. IUPUI May be the 8 seed but they are 4th in the league according to kenpom and I don’t believe they are as bad as their seed says they are. If Loudon gets in foul trouble the way he did the last time we played this will be interesting. Assuming we get through IUPUI, UIC and Green Bay aren’t cupcakes clearly. While the Raiders boast the best defense statistically in the league, UIC is the only other team that allows less than 1 point per possession. Green Bay is the best offense in the league. So we are facing either the best defense or the best offense that we could go up against if we beat IUPUI. I would put our offense in league play as the third best behind Green Bay and NKU, but also would say our offense is the most prone to lapsing of those teams. I have no doubt our defense will show up and we will guard better than any team, but will we be hot on offense and tear through this bracket or are we going to give every Raider fan heart trouble? We shall see.

Another big home game where we should expect 5k in attendance; let's assume that we won't crap our pants at home. Two things that concern me tonight:
IUPUI 3 point shooting vs. our 3 point shooting. IUPUI has 4 guys right around 30%, one guy at 40%, and one at 50%. Even their center Ismail can knock them down from deep. If IUPUI has an on night from deep, and we have an off night, we could be in serious trouble.
IUPUI in "big wins" this season: @ UIC - 8/13 from deep. vs NKU - 8/19 from deep. vs GB - 11/20 from deep.
The other thing that worries me is the Ismail vs Love matchup. Here's his last two games: @oakland 29 minutes, 15 points on 6/9 shooting @detroit 19 minutes, 10 points on 5/6 shooting
Nothing amazing, but he's effective when he shoots, and he's getting more minutes as the season wears on. At 61% on the season, he's laying it in or dunking it 10% more effectively than big Lou (51%).
Both players fouled out when the two teams met at IUPUI, Love getting the better of Ismail 12 points to 7. Both players scored 10 in the first match-up at the Nutter Center in a game that was dominated by guard play from the opening whistle to the final horn.
I would be looking more to the second match-up where both teams are trying to establish real estate under the basket and get higher percentage looks while trying to force the other team outside. Love has to contain Ismail and be weary of fouls, as Parker gives up 2 inches and 20 pounds on Ismail.
The edge in this game is going to go to whoever can defend down low without fouling, and whoever can kick out to open shooters and knock down jumpers.
