I thought Murray State was a 4 year deal that we finalized this season. We played 12/22/15, 12/22/15, 11/18/17, and 11/10/18.
@toledo is correct. That will finish up another 4 year deal.
We also will have one home and one road game against mystery Summit league teams, but we can probably expect them to be in the upper third of their league. (SDSU, OMAHA, NDST, IPFW). Everyone else had a losing season.

I just hope beyond hope that we scuttle those D2 games, but I feel like I'm beating a dead horse on this issue.

The Western Carolina game was part of the Cancun Challenge, so there won't be a return game.

I just hope beyond hope that we scuttle those D2 games, but I feel like I'm beating a dead horse on this issue. I don't think there is anyone on the board that is going to make a good argument for playing those D2/NAIA games. We do it for financial reasons. Bob Grant wants a certain number of home games every year for ticket sales and for sponsorship advertising. WSU can get more from our sponsors to have their signage on our court for 17 homes game than we can get for 15-16 home games. The sponsors don't seem to care that those 1-2 extra games are poorly attended and against crappy competition. We give up some home games to play buy games against power 5 conferences at their place and when we play in neutral site tournaments. Financially it's cheaper to balance out the schedule by paying D2/NAIA teams to come to our place than it is to pay low majors to come to our place. Like you, I would much rather play better competition even if we don't get as many home games. In my opinion, playing better competition will increase attendance even if we are playing less home games. It makes our team better in the long run. It will help us do better in conference play. It will better prepare us for conference tournament play and post season play. If we continue to improve in all of those areas it helps us get out of the HL and into a better conference. At the end of the day all of those things makes us a better program and a more profitable program. Those are things Bob Grant should want more that the short sighted financial benefits of scheduling D2/NAIA games.

Good point by drop. When they played four or five games and then you throw in like a Northwestern State home game in December just doesn't make any sense.

Well, this particular year we lost the 2 games before Cedarville ( not to mention the travel to Cancun ) and lost 3 before Northwestern State. I was already upset by the OOC showing and pretty much writing off the regular season that I expected.
Not that I have any problem with never scheduling non D-1 games but, you can use them to make adjustments that weren't figured out to that point and a reward for the guys that work hard in practice but, hardly ever play. Not sure there would be a benefit with just getting them out of the way. So, if you schedule such games you can get something out of them. The guys that usually don't play will work a little more in practice and everyone gets a little confidence back if they need it. That's the theory anyway.

Well, in this particular season, we lost Hall before the first ( Cedarville ) and Vest had only started a couple ( with Wampler as 6th man ) before Northwestern State. Not sure either outcome could have been predicted in the first 2 games of the year. Of course, it isn't my theory ( just what I've heard coaches tell me about what some games could provide...other than the great difference in payouts ). Even with a bunch of returning players, it takes time to be happy with defenses.
At the end of the day, if you care about seedings and being in the conversation of an at-large...how many games did you play and win in each quadrant? You can see what is happening with our baseball team and I don't have a problem with their schedule. No room for error and it is still...better get the automatic bid.
Glad you look forward to true exhibitions but, not sure fans that post on Raider Nation would consider the season underway if non-D1 games were first. I used to always go to the 1st official practice to see them. Had to chuckle about such games always being overmatched but, that tells you where you are at or where you need to get.

Well, that takes care of the Miami (OH) game. Interesting added story element with Wampler going against his old squad.
