Hmm....not even a road game against a Power 5? I know the 20 game conference schedules make that hard, but still. At least we should see a lot of wins right?

I actually am fine with this non-conference schedule. Our home schedule is actually interesting and competitive (outside of the non-D1 games). It would be nice to have a bigger school road game or two to test this squad, but the Raiders could rack up a lot of W’s with this schedule. Our seed, if we make the Big Dance, will likely have little impact on our non conference schedule and more to do with the strength of the Horizon League this year and how many wins we could rack up.

Positives I See: - Slightly better home non-conference schedule than last season - Opportunities for lots of W's - Gulf Coast Showcase: Potential opportunities for some decent wins - Continuation of series with Western Kentucky, Indiana State, Toledo, Miami, Kent St. I'd rather see more series with these types of teams than some of the other games
Negatives I see(all involving strength of schedule): - At Tennessee Tech: I'm guessing this is the start of a home and home series? Why? Last year they were 6-23 with an RPI of 317. - Southern(6-25, 345 RPI last year) and Mississippi Valley State (5-26, 350 RPI last year) - 2 Division II opponents - No power conference opponents or major tests
Combine this non-conference schedule with the quality of the Horizon league, I feel like the Raiders should break the program record for wins in a season. The lack of opportunities for quality wins against teams that will provide a major test is a concern. With no big name/power conference opponents, if the Raiders win the Horizon tourney to make the NCAA field, will they be fully prepared or will they be hesitant/timid/tense against a big-name opponent?

I'll look at the bright side with this schedule. We have rematches with three teams we lost to last year (Miami, Kent St., and Indiana St.) plus a potential Murray State rematch. Winning these four games will do a lot for our confidence going into conference play. I'd rather have that scenario than playing and losing to a Penn State equivalent team. We'd probably top out at a 14 seed anyway given the current state of the Horizon no matter who we schedule non-con, we just need to come out of the gate strong this year and not stumble.

When will the Conference Schedule be released?

If I saw it correctly on wsuraiders.com releases - it was Sept 4th last year and Sept 5th two seasons ago. FWIW, it said the HL released it last year but, men's basketball took the credit two seasons ago.

For those that wonder why I made a distinction on who released it...doubt it changed but, if you were unhappy with the timing 2 years ago, WSU wanted you to know they were waiting just like the fans on the timing.

It was last updated in July when WSU released the full OOC schedule

Here is what puzzles me about this schedule. Everyone near and around the program, including fans, are saying this can be a very good team. We have a legit post player who can at least compete with good centers. Not the elites but some of the better post players. We have a legit point guard and we have some athletic wings. We consider ourselves to have depth. In short, we have the pieces to have a very good season. So in our position what we need to do is build a quality schedule with two goals in mind. First , putting ourselves in line for an at large bid ( maybe a pipe dream of mine but I still think that should be a goal ), and second improve our prospects for a better seed in postseason. It would seem to me that given the high hopes for this team to be really good this season every step along the scheduling highway would have been with building a good resume.
I will post my thoughts on how well we accomplished this goal in a while. I have to put my six year old grandson to bed. Catch you later.

I will post my thoughts on how well we accomplished this goal in a while. I have to put my six year old grandson to bed. Catch you later. Our coaches tried to put together a better schedule. The problem is other teams know we are going to have a good team and we have had some success on the road recently in our OOC schedule. Power 5 teams don’t want to schedule quality mid-majors that could give them a run for their money. They want to schedule teams that they know will give them an easy win or teams that will help build their resume. Being in the HL right now is not helping our cause with scheduling. That being said, I still want to see a better schedule too. I don’t think getting an at large bid from the HL is possible anymore but we should strive to schedule like that is our goal.
