This article might give a little insight into the business of halftime entertainment. Bonus: it features Tyler's Amazing Balancing Act! just saw a clip of the amazing Red Panda on You Tube, has she ever been at a WSU halftime show? That would be cool to see her in person. $3500 per game.

The average college student must not be in very good shape or else more than a handful of them could walk over to the Nutter Center to catch a game. Yes one game for me so far this year, but a few hundred over the last 45 or so years. A navy seal isn’t walking from campus housing to the nutter center on a winter night in Dayton, let alone a college kid. Why? It isn’t worth it. At all. Tell me what people get out of going to the games that they don’t get out of watching them on TV. Why do people go to concerts when they can just listen to the music at home? For the show...the lights and the atmosphere and the environment. The excitement! Going to a sporting event is supposed to be an experience too and it just isn’t that at the nutter center. And I go to plenty of games, but that’s because I’m a die hard fan. It’s pretty disappointing every time though. Don’t get me wrong, the basketball product is wonderful (most nights), but I can get that on my 60 inch flat screen and I don’t have to sit on a piece of green plastic. This post from years past hits the nail on the head..."Why do people go to concerts when they can just listen to the music at home? For the show...the lights and the atmosphere and the environment. The excitement! Going to a sporting event is supposed to be an experience too and it just isn’t that at the nutter center."

I agree. I’ve had season tickets for about 5 years now and this will be my last year with them. We added an additional seat when my first kid was born, but with a second here now, it’s just not worth it. If you don’t arrive an hour early, you miss tables at the alumni zone and usually only 1 or 2 overpriced, burnt food concessions are the only option.
After the first four win, prices went up on everything, but the experience got worse and the actual program isn’t improving. Hard to justify.

Hopefully we finish strong, never want to see someone stop with going to games! The athletic department needs to add more fans. I think it's time we acknowledge the aging fan base. Its a loyal group but we need younger fans. The games are a blast when people are into it. Unfortunately that doesn't happen until the final 2 minutes of the game.

The excitement! Going to a sporting event is supposed to be an experience too and it just isn’t that at the nutter center." You wrote in another thread about the better game experiences you get at UC and the school across town and that you prefer to sit at home and watch our games on the big screen. I don’t go to our games for an experience. I go to watch our team play and financially support our team. Everyone wants to bitch and moan about the status of our athletic department. It will only improve if our fans start putting their money where their mouth is. UC and the school across town can afford to put on an exciting game experience because they both spend more on men’s basketball than we can spend on our entire athletic department. They also charge an ungodly amount of money for their tickets compared to ours. They can afford to do that because they are in better conferences and there is a demand for their tickets. If you guys don’t want to attend games or donate to the athletic department, it’s your money and your right to spend your money how you see fit. At the same time, you don’t really have a right to complain about the athletic department either. At the very least, your opinion won’t really carry any value to the fans that are supporting the team.

Started when I was a student back in the D2 days, continued throughout the years regardless of the performance on the court or whatever happens at half time.

Started when I was a student back in the D2 days, continued throughout the years regardless of the performance on the court or whatever happens at half time. Have been a Wright State Fan since Marcus Jackson was coach. Wright State games used to be fun on and off the court. You could feel the electricity in the air at a packed game at the PE building or Nutter Center. Today, the Nutter Center is a nice place to watch a little basketball and have a pleasant chat with your friends. Many fans are content with how things are today, no crowds, no entertainment, rooting for a team stuck in a crappy conference. I want more from my team and the administration that guides it. WSU was poised for greatness after the D2 Championship in 1983 and the opening of the magnificent Nutter Center in 1990, but bad luck and countless administrative blunders crushed that dream. That said, I like Bob Grant and Nagy, they have over achieved during their time, especially considering the situation they inherited.

The electricity isn't there because the lack of butts in the seats. Not sure how sitting at home helps us get out of the crappy conference, and I would guess does more to cement us in place. It's almost a chicken or the egg situation -- having a continuously dominant team is the key, no doubt, but having a great fan base likely helps lure better players, and makes us more attractive to better conferences as well.

Budget. Budget. Budget.
Some of you are forgetting we didn’t even have the funds to field the minimum number of teams to stay D1 until last year.

I have been going to games since I started going to Wright State in 1979, and the game experience today is non existent. Down to the green flood light they used to have lighting up the corners of the arena, everything has gone downhill.

The game day experience has definitely been hurt by our budget restraints. I understand both sides of this debate. I keep my season tickets because I want to financially support the men’s basketball program. I understand when people are frustrated with the bad parking situation, lack of open ticket lines, and lack of open concession stands and poor food quality. Some of those things need to change sooner vs later if we are ever going to take the next step as a program.
Realistic free options: 1. Get Bob Grant to talk with our business school. Try to get as many students that want to go into marketing as they can to work as free interns. They get experience and something to list on a future resume. We get some free labor to help with marketing ideas (free social media type stuff, hanging signage around campus etc) and we can get them to help out where needed on game days at the ticket office/concession lines.
2. Partner with some of the local businesses that Wright State works with and do a lot more freebie giveaways. We just had a major announcement with Premier Health increasing the number of med students we will have and MVH becoming a teaching hospital. Premier is one of the top 2 employers in the area. Have a Premier night at the Nutter Center in December where any Premier Employee can get 2 free tickets. Worst case scenario is the Nutter Center is more full one night resulting in a better game atmosphere and we get a little more revenue from concession sales that night. Best case scenario is some of those Premier Employees become fans of the program and buy tickets at future games too. Most of the games in December should have some type of giveaway like this with a local business partner. It’s already hard to get casual fans to December games because of the holidays and our students are on break. Like I said previously, if we can get some casual basketball fans to the arena early in the year and they like our team, we might get them to return in January and February as paying customers.
All of this is a moot point if Nagy doesn’t get things turned around. No one wants to come see a .500 team especially one in a crappy conference.

Here's my gripe. When we have a good turnout (and/or multiple athletic events happening at the same time), we need to use the gravel parking lots on the opposite side of the road. Great! BUT...there's just a cow path leading from that parking lot up towards a crosswalk, whose lines are not hardly visible at this point, and nobody to help block traffic to assist those crossing the road. Maybe take one of the guys waving people into the lots (pretty unnecessary if you ask me) and have them be a crossing guard. Same story, but worse situation after the game when everybody is leaving at essentially the same time (in the dark)...but there are NO individuals directing traffic afterwards. Top that off with poor lighting (some lights burnt out) on the paved path next to the pond. I'd like to see WSU do better in this area.
