I think it is an indication that while this team and this program have improved greatly under Nagy and his staff, we may still not be head and shoulders above the league like many here think; it may take another year or two. That being said last night was a poor performance by this roster and staff, and one where effort and scheme did not meet many of our expectations. It happens. A #6 Duke team lost by 22 on the road against an NC state team which was .500 in conference play. While the damage is done to the resumé, all we can hope is that it was a blip on the radar and the team bounces back and peaks heading into tournament play. Agreed. They were also hungrier. Win three games in the conf tourney and all this is forgotten. |

They switched back to the double bye format this year so WSU only has to win two games in the tournament!

Win three games in the conf tourney and all this is forgotten. I wish that was true but even if we win the next 4 games to win the HL regular season and tournament championships and go Dancing, this loss will come back to haunt us. Our staff put together a pretty crappy OOC schedule that left no room for error. Every loss dramatically hurts our chance to get a decent seed in the tournament. A 13-14 seed would have given us a realistic shot at our first NCAA win. Another 15-16 seed sets us up for another ass whooping on National TV. The guys voicing their frustration understand that reality. As I said previously, we are still in first place today but we just made the remainder of this season drastically harder and it’s a shame because this really is one of the best teams I’ve seen suit up for Wright State. I hate to think that they could just be our next one and done teams in the NCAAs or worse yet a team that misses out on the post season because they end up choking to a less talented team in the HL tournament. |

That’s a fair assessment, I don’t disagree. I think the 4s are vulnerable. Versus when Nagy and SDSU got a 12 seed and had to play a very talented 5 seed in Maryland, a Michigan team with Trey Burke as a 13 seed another year. I think a 4 like Penn State is beatable. Good problem to have though if you make it. |
