I'm struggling to find what fragments of logic Green Bay has been using the last month or so. First, you fire a guy who had 5 winning seasons out of his 6 years, including an NCAA berth in his first season. I think it's a pretty unrealistic to have higher expectations out of a coach for a school that competes in our league, is challenging to recruit to, and has budget constraints due to having to continue to pay Linc Darner 720k over the next 3 years. And then there's this list. A list that is sadly underwhelming in my opinion. A bunch of guys from the Dick / Tony Bennet lineage of defense-first schemes. That doesn't seem to fit the run and gun style that Green Bay has shown over the better part of the last decade. They dropped 80 points 18 times last season, so, while they could certainly use more defensive tuning, pivoting to a defensive-first coach might be a tough sell to the current core. There's a few names who have Green Bay times. Neither of them jump of the page as clear home run hits, but Jimmie Foster, to me, looks like the best option. He followed Wardle to Bradley after the 2015 season, which is when Green Bay brought in Linc Darner. I don't see the appeal in bringing in an assistant from Oregon State who has never really completed in the Pac, or a D2 coach that is only 60 games over .500. They went the D2 route last time bringing in Darner who had major success at the D2 level, including a national championship. Bottom line, unless there's something we don't know, I have a hard time seeing any of these guys doing a better job at Green Bay than Darner was doing. Asking for championships and NCAA tournament appearances is a really tough ask for anyone in this conference considering how the past few years have gone. Makes me wonder what part of the story we still aren't hearing.

When I first read this article, I assumed that nobody wanted this job. Why on earth would IUPUI bring him back if that wasn't the case? But then I did a little research and it appears from the article linked below that IUPUI was forced to abandon their search when IU President Michael McRobbie placed a ban on new hires during the pandemic. So now IUPUI and the HL are stuck with one of the worst coaches in D1. What does IUPUI have to do to become autonomous and get out from under the thumb of IU? www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/2020/04/09/uindy-looking-new-basketball-coach-but-iupui-search-still-hold/5122969002/
