We should have been no lower than a 3 seed. Getting a 4 seed is a slap in the face.

Raiders earn #4 seed in the Knoxville regional hosted by #3 national seed Tennessee. Other teams in the regional: Liberty (3), Duke (2). We play Friday at 6pm on ESPN3. We got royally screwed getting a 4 seed vs. the #3 overall seed. The ESPN commentators said the NCAA Selection Committee did Tennessee no favors matching them up against Wright State the highest-scoring team in the country and it showed how tough the Knoxville Bracket is. I think it was really hard for the Selection Committee to evaluate the uneven schedules, especially the lack of out-of-conference games. I think #RaiderGang is in the same position as our basketball team. Until #RaiderGang wins a Regional the only respect the Raiders will get is from the teams they play and maybe a few college baseball insiders. Let's win this Regional, it is doable. The #RaiderGang team could get on a roll and wind up in Omaha.

Unfortunately I'm not surprised. We didn't pick up any signature OOC wins this year and the HL sucks.

This is one tough Regional. I am not sure there is a tougher one. I can assure you UT knows all about Wright State. Last year before the season was canceled Wright State went to Tennessee and took two out of three from them.
RPI of the Knoxville Regional: Tennessee #5 Duke #19 Wright State #27 Liberty #36

Hey Raiderrunt, thanks for all the info you provided. Very well done! I have a question though. Assuming the super regional sites aren't set just yet, how are they determined if the #1 seed doesn't make it past the regional round? I'm sure the NCAA already has sites in mind, so will they look at all the remaining 16 teams and put them together geographically somehow, for the super regional round?

Hey Raiderrunt, thanks for all the info you provided. Very well done! I have a question though. Assuming the super regional sites aren't set just yet, how are they determined if the #1 seed doesn't make it past the regional round? I'm sure the NCAA already has sites in mind, so will they look at all the remaining 16 teams and put them together geographically somehow, for the super regional round? Good question! I think I have all of this figured out. Let's start with 16 sites which are determined through merit. Merit meaning how much money the NCAA can make from the specific locale. But most number one regional seeds will host a Regional. The winner of each Regional will move on to the Super Regionals. When any of the eight National Seeds advance from Regionals, they will host Super Regionals at their home site. In the likely occurrence, not all eight teams make it past the carnage, the NCAA chooses a location-based, again, on merit (see merit defined above). Further things to note: - One school hosts all three games - National Seeds cannot face each other at the Super Regional level - The teams split home-team status in the first two games, with the host school batting last in the opening game and first in game 2. - If a third game is needed, a coin toss determines home-team status. Pretty simple, right?. Now for the COLLEGE WORLD SERIES If if I figured this out right, eight teams advance from the Super Regionals and meet to play in the CWS in Omaha at TD Ameritrade Park. The CWS is pretty much like the insanity of the earlier rounds. It consists of two double-elimination brackets of four teams each. The winners of each bracket meet in a best-of-three final. The winner of the final series because they successfully navigated this beast is crowned National Champion. After reading this and feeling comfortable with your understanding, feel confident in telling your friends and co-workers a National Seed always hosts Super Regionals, take solace in scolding your know-it-all co-worker for incorrectly saying 65 teams make the tournament, and be proud you now think you understand the insanity of all this. In two weeks you can explain it all to me when I forget what I wrote here.

The NCAA Fan Page on Twitter ranked the Knoxville Regional as the toughest Regional, just as we thought.

Damn. that is a horrible way to lose this one. I don't know why we pulled our relief pitcher who pitched the 7th and 8th innings.

Luikart was determined tonight. Big mistake pulling him. 20/20 hindsight.

Damn. that is a horrible way to lose this one. I don't know why we pulled our relief pitcher who pitched the 7th and 8th innings. I think 2 things played into that decision by coach. 1. Luikart was having a great outing but he had already pitched 2 innings going into the ninth. Going into the game he had pitched sparingly this year. I think for the season he had only pitched 7 innings total. He is a 2 way player that played the field more than pitched this season. Those 2 inning were already a lot for him given how he was used this year. 2. Coach pulled Luikart (a freshman) and brought in his experienced senior closer to close out the ninth. In hindsight it was a bad decision but I thought it was the smart call when I saw him warming up to start the ninth.
