And all of Raider nation breathes a huge sigh of relief. Thank you Trey, looking forward to see what you and the team can do next season!

Presumably Sisley has an undisclosed injury. This would help explain why CJ Wilbourne entered the game (rather than Sisley) in the first half against MKE, which at the time was totally perplexing. Wish Sisley nothing but the best, he seems like a stand up guy and was among the best guests when he was on the coaches show.

Thanks for that info. I hope he enjoys his experience beyond basketball at WSU. Wonder if anyone else is going to leave the program. Getting Trey back is obviously huge news but losing Sisley is a major blow with Alex Garcia also transferring out. We only have 2 legit interior players going into next season. We really need to bring in another big man with that open scholarship. This is THE MOMENT we've all been waiting for. We all know of a need, and the answer is in the transfer portal. Nagy has the ammunition of Love and Basile to show someone that a good big can thrive at this school and in this league. I'd love to get someone who can challenge for major minutes at the 5. If we had a true Loudon Love-type 5, imagine how good we could be if we had a Love-like 5 and Noel getting full time minutes at the 4.

You are probably going to be very disappointed if you want a portal guy. If you follow our staff on social media, you know that they are only in contact with high school recruits. They haven’t reached out to any transfers as far as I can tell.

With the immediate need for a big man, the portal is the best bet. If the coaches aren't scouring the portal, it's irresponsible. There can't be many available incoming freshman big men who will be ready to play on day 1. Maybe someone who decommitted from a school due to coaching changes, such as the 6'11" center who just decommitted from Western Kentucky. I really hope we don't see Drey Carter or Andrew Welage having to attempt to fill in at center if Braun/Noel get injured or are in foul trouble

Assuming we don't lose any additional players you should prepare to see exactly that...Carter/Welage playing the 4 when Noel/Braun is in foul trouble.
There were multiple years where we had a rotation with only 2 bigs (Love/Basile were terrific but we could have really used a third).
One of the biggest downsides is that if one of the two big guys gets hurt then WSU is screwed. Also not being able to have them play together due to lack of depth.

I realize that Sisley and Wilbourn didn't exactly pan out to be great gets in the portal, but losing two big bodies now is a serious issue, but injuries happen, and we can't fault the players for trying and competing. We're left with Braun to be the only real natural 5 on this team. He's fine for this league, but we can all acknowledge he's a bit undersized compared to the D1 spectrum. Noel is better served at the 4 because he has the ability to create off the dribble and hit shots from deep.
I just really have a hard time with our staff not trying to fill the void left by Wilbourn and Sisley via the transfer portal. I realize that the services of portal guys are highly competitive, but you can't win if you don't play. I really have a hard time watching the portal be more of a hinderance to this program than it is a blessing and watching other mid-major teams, including some in this very conference, get good athletes out of it. Like I said above, you show a stud at 5 some tape from Love / Basile and the development of those players over time, the pedigree of our program, our facilities, etc. and offer them a chance at major D1 minutes....I don't see how we don't at least try. Getting a player with a year or two of eligibility who has the size and skillset of a developed player (not a high schooler) would elevate this program back up atop the league faster than getting another high school commit who will take years to bulk up, learn our offense, and get defensively sound. I just don't get the reasoning behind not even throwing a line into the water and see if we get a bite.

I realize that the services of portal guys are highly competitive, but you can't win if you don't play. If you think the staff isn’t recruiting from the portal because they are afraid of the competition, you are completely missing the point. They are consciously making the choice to build their roster with the players they want vs what they may need. Nagy is 100% invested in his concept of how you build a team with 4-5 year players and keeping guys loyal to the program. I think what Trey just did is the ultimate example of his philosophy working in Nagy’s mind and will probably convince him to double down on his commitment to mainly recruiting high school kids. We have had multiple transfers over the years but they were all guys we recruited out of high school. Unfortunately I don’t think that is going to change.

There is a Class of 23 6'9" post player out of Elder named Carson Browne who hasn't committed yet. I'm sure that the coaches have seen him, but with the recent developments, I wonder if they might be interested.

Anybody we recruited out of HS that had to go JUCO that we could get back in with? Besides not having a D1 body most likely, the other problem with recruiting a HS senior to be our 3rd big is that Nagy loves to redshirt his freshman anyway so that doesn't help us anyways.
I don't see how we go into next season without a JUCO or transfer post player on this roster. We're going to get killed on the boards in some games next year otherwise.

Maybe our coaches could stop over lol He's probably way out of our league, so to speak, as he was one of Pitt's better players.

www.daytondailynews.com/local/wright-state-star-calvin-staying-with-raiders-for-final-season/WKFMURLF3JEKLMC64MY2HQT4TM/Nagy indicated he intends to find a replacement for Sisley, who made four starts and appeared in 27 games but averaged just 2.7 points.
“With the guys we have coming back, we feel like it gives us a pretty good team. But we’re always going to try to get better,” Nagy said.
“We owe that to our players. I think sometimes people feel like, ah, you don’t want to recruit over them and hurt them. But there’s always a responsibility to be the best we can, as long as we don’t hurt the locker room.”

It's one of the toughest leagues in Ohio. He goes to Elder high school. Former Raider, Ryan Custer, is also an Elder graduate.
