That doesn’t make any sense. We wouldn’t have even brought him on a visit if we didn’t have a scholarship available for him. I guess the coaches have other plans for the scholarship. Maybe they want him as a preferred walk-on. I'm guessing we should be hearing something soon on that. We must have something we feel real good about if we're telling recruits our last scholarship is gone. It seems like he's only got d2 offers, so maybe a one year walk-on was discussed. I don't know anything more than what I've been told, but common sense tells me the staff knows more than we know.

Watching the Purdue game last night, it is clear how important athletic guards can be. If Trey was on that team they would have won by 30+. Not sure how Purdue wasn't exposed until then. I'm so excited Trey is coming back but won't believe it until he is on the court for our first game! I think we have the make up of a team that can pull off an upset. We just need someone that is 6'8 or taller to push AJ and provide some depth.

Eventually the Raiders will take down a P5 team in the NCAA.

I don't see this kid walking on anywhere unless he has some desire to go to a specific P5 program. At the minimum, he will get some scholarship offers from low majors. I think he will end up on scholarship at a mid-major though. I hope he ends up at Wright State. We have a pretty damn good record of signing big men that don't exactly have great offer lists that have ended up being pretty damn good for us: Love, Basile, and Noel. If it's true that we already have someone else lined up for our last scholarship, you would think we would have heard something about it. Hope it's true, but I find it hard to believe in this social media era where kids post absolutely everything going on in their lives that we cannot find anything online about it.

I have no inside knowledge of who we are recruiting. I just follow our coaching staff on social media. The following are guys that at least 1 member of our staff has started communicating with recently. I don't know how serious either party is but I thought I would share. Travis Trice just seems to be focused on 2024 recruits. He hasn't made any recent contacts that I can tell. Dan Bere has been talking to some HS seniors and a few portal guys. Lafayette transfer Joshua Rivera: 6-7, 200# SF averaged 10.6 points and 5.3 rebounds as a freshman this year. 3 years of eligibility remaining. Wyoming transfer Jeremiah Oden: 6-8, 201# SF/PF averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 rebounds as a junior. 2 years of eligibility remaining. Avantae Parker: 6-8, 200# PF. Former Georgia Southern recruit that recently decommitted. Sultan Adewale: 6-8, 220# PF. 3 star recruit on 24/7 sports, #61 ranked PF Dasear Haskins: 6-6, 190# SF. Holds 9 offers Nick Goff is communicating with at least 1 portal guy with local ties. St. Francis transfer Maxwell Land: 6-4, 185# SG/SF averaged 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds as a junior. 1000+ point scorer in college. 2 years of eligibility remaining. Played HS ball at Moeller HS in Cincinatti. Besides communicating with Coach Goff, he also knows current Raider Brandon Noel Clint Sargent has not been communicating with anyone new recently. Clint, as a recruiter is more of a sniper, whereas, our other assistant coaches are more like hunters using shotguns. They go after a lot of recruits hoping to make a connection with a few of them. Clint seems to only recruit a handful of players each year and he usually develops good relationships with those recruits and we end up landing a good percentage of them. He was involved with 2 of the 3 recruits we signed in the fall. He is only communicating with 1 2023 recruit from what I can tell: Carson Browne: 6-9, 210# PF/C from Elder HS, home of former Raider Ryan Custer. Another interesting note: Carson also follows Big D on social media. New to the list:Troy Glover II: 6-10, 210# PF/C transfer from Trinity Christian College. He averaged 13.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game as a JUCO freshman. Elijah Malone: 6-10 C from Grace College. He averaged 14.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game as a Junior. He has 2 years of eligibility.

New to the list: Vance Peiffer: 6-9, 220# high school PF from Iowa. Johnny O’Neil: 6-9, 200# PF transfer from American university university Carlos Curry: 6-11, 240# C from Georgia Southern

I haven’t seen a single thing online anywhere that says he visited Wright State last week. In this day of social media, kids don’t make college visits without it getting shared somewhere online. In the last 10 days, our staff has also contacted at least a dozen guys that have entered the transfer portal. You don’t waste your time recruiting a whole bunch of new recruits if you have something you feel good about already lined up.

Bradley transfer Zex Montgomery just started getting followed on social media by 1/2 our coaching staff From an article about him: "He shot 43.4% from the field and 42.2% from 3-point range for a Bradley team that produced the third-best shooting from long distance in the Valley. He averaged 8.1 point per game and 3.4 rebounds and capped off his season with a place on the Valley Most Improved Team."

I love and hate this time of year. It’s all wait and see what happens and how it is going to effect next year’s team. It’s great we didn’t lose much of our roster but it’s driving me crazy waiting to see what we do with that last scholarship. It could be the difference between us having a good or great season next year.

Do we have any shot of the Xavier guy coming here? Highly doubtful IMO. Our staff is not being aggressive enough in the transfer portal and just moving way too damn slow IMO.
