Tanner Holden entering the transfer portal at Ohio State might be a tipping scale moment for Coach Nagy. Based on his coaching philosophy, you would expect him to pass on trying to bring Tanner back. Based on what is probably best for the program, he should swallow his pride and go all in on trying to get Tanner back in a green and gold uniform next year. We could have one hell of a team next year if Amari and Tanner regain their former all HL forms and we could finally elevate the program to the next level. If he passes on Tanner and we have another mediocre year, I don't see Nagy as our coach very long.

Still very curious about the tidbit in the Dispatch article about Tanner possibly needing to return to WSU to be eligible immediately. That had to come from somewhere. Not sure how good the author's sources are but would love to know how/why/where he heard that. If it was just from studying the rule book then I certainly wouldn't hold my breath to see him return. If that came from someone associated with Tanner or the OSU program though then I would imagine there has been some communication already with WSU at least through back channels to at least explore the option.

we have two legitimate every game scores who can get you 15pts and that is Calvin and Noel. You need more ballers than that folks. We need a 3rd 15-20 pt option every night and that is Tanner...not getting that from Alex, not getting that from Davis, etc on this squad as currently constructed. I was one of those butt hurt guys with the way Tanner left last year and I 100% agree that you don’t let that stop you from aggressive pursuing Tanner. Anytime you can add talent you do. That being said, I’m going to disagree with the rest of your post. Amari was a 2x all HL player and averaged close to double digits in the SEC in his one season there. If our staff figures out how to incorporate what he brings to the table to our system better there is no reason he cannot become an all HL caliber player again. Huibregste, Welage, and Braun are not stars, but if they start giving us more consistency they are all proven capable scorers at this level. We need consistency from them. A name no one is talking about much is Drey Carter. If he has been utilizing his redshirt year in the weight room as he needed to, he is going to be a guy everyone starts talking about as the next Raider great. I have no doubt about that whatsoever. I have no idea what will end up happening with Tanner. I do hope he is playing for us next year. I hope Amari regains his old form. I hope our returning players step up their game. I hope our redshirts utilized their year of learning our system and utilizing the weight room. I hope our incoming freshmen guards are as good as I think they can be. I hope our staff gets on the same page and figures out what type of a system we are going to run next year. There are a lot of unknowns about next season but there is also a lot of really good possibilities too.

This whole development reminds me of seeing Tanner in the crowd when we played NKU at home. The fact that he showed up at that game and was down by the bench afterwards, talking to the players and coaches... Maybe I'm a naive optimist, but it made me think maybe he misses playing here. Realistically, how often is an active player going to attend a game at another school he used to play at, even as his team is in the home stretch heading toward tournament time? He knows good and well that he would have been an integral part of that game. I got to think a player like Tanner would rather be playing and contributing, even starring, in every game instead of sitting on the bench, even if it is for a bigger school.
I would love to see him back on the court at the Nutter Center, where he belongs.

Hopeium is quite a drug so hopefully it's not all hope and actual reality that could come to pass. I was beyond thrilled and surprised when Trey decided to stay (along with all the other relevant players) but I can't imagine how I would feel if Tanner came back to WSU. Like I can't even comprehend it happening. Maybe that's just a defense mechanism. Plus Tanner could go to Italy! How awesome would that be?!?

I'll just add that Nagy should probably try to bring Tanner back also so that he doesn't end up getting a waiver and playing for NKU or YSU next year because my cynical side could absolutely see that happening. (Although Marshall wouldn't surprise me either)

(Although Marshall wouldn't surprise me either) I can't see a reason why he would come back to the Horizon (except to play at Wright State). I'm sure he would be welcomed at schools in better leagues like the A10 or MVC.

I'd be a little upset if he did because I have one school in mind he'd probably fit. We need to do everything to get him back.

To me this is a second good test, after Trey, about the strength of WSU NIL package. Loyalty gets WSU a long conversation with Tanner. But whether right or wrong, the new NIL collective will be important ti what Tanner decides. Whatever he decides, still thankful as a fan for the 3 years he gave and hope we get a 4th.

I think all this Tanner Holden talk is wishful thinking. He burned bridges when he left. Enough so that 1/3 of staff stopped following him on social media last year. That’s the kind of crap you do when you are butt hurt (as Big D liked to put it) after getting dumped by a long time girlfriend. Those coaches haven’t started to follow him again on social media since he entered the transfer portal. That isn’t a good sign. The other bad sign is Coach Trice just started to recruit a 6-9 kid that entered the transfer portal yesterday, R.J. Sunahara. I don’t see any reason to start recruiting someone new if Tanner is a real possibility or anyone else we have already been recruiting is a real possibility for that matter. Trying to follow our recruiting this spring has been depressing as hell. It doesn’t look like our staff has a clue as to how to recruit portal guys. I’m really worried we won’t even fill last last scholarship spot going into next season.

The big guy from Baylor - do we even have a shot to land him? Did we offer him?

The portal closes in 1 week, so we should know sooner vs later who else we are adding for next season.
