Hmm, that is quite a jump up for IUPUI and quite a drop for Purdue Fort Wayne??

I would love to see Trey Calvin as POY.
If he is POY and if Holden plays this year I expect WSU to finish higher than third.

Our chances for success this year really comes down to if Tanner is eligible or not. With Tanner we are easily a top three team. Without him we are middle of the pack in the Horizon league.

I tend to disagree. Here’s my thought, I think we are top 3 without Tanner, we may be one of the better mid-majors in the country with him. This is easily the deepest team we have had in awhile, and if we can keep the guys in the post healthy and Carter and Meyer and some of our other taller guards can help some at the four. We should be a very good shooting team, rebounding is my biggest concern this year. I also hope coach doesn’t red shirt very many guys. We need to play them so we don’t wear down at the end of the season, and with the portal very few guys stay 5 years anymore.

I understand where you are coming from with your argument but did you notice how many “if scenarios” you used to justify us being good this year. If all those things fall into place, we could be very good but history is not on our side that they will. I’ve been a fan since we opened the Nutter Center and honestly cannot remember a year where we made it through the season injury free. If we are lucky we make it most of the year with a few guys missing a handful of games here or there with minor injuries, but injuries are going to happen with the style of defense we play and coach’s short rotation. We have the deepest team we have had in years and I’d be shocked if we played more than 7-8 guys per game by the time we roll into HL play. It’s been a constant theme in Nagy’s tenure. The other big concern I have is Nagy’s insistence on playing his type of guy vs the best player. Keaton Norris is his type of guy but honestly brings very little to the table offensively or defensively but he will most likely get significant playing time. We have some of the most talented freshmen guards we have signed in years coming in that should be able to help us win games. My guess is that 2 of the 3 will redshirt and Norris will play 20+ minutes a game. We have to play our best players if we want to be the best team in the HL this year and history has shown us that Nagy is going to do what Nagy wants to do if it costs us games or not.

I agree with some of what Ukraine Train said too. Coach Nagy really needs to use our bench more this year and get some of our young talented players on the court and live with some of the mistakes they are going to make transitioning to D1. We have a lot of great shooters and that is the big equilizer when you are playing bigger competition.
