I think there will be at least one upset in the first round. I like WSU matchups. The offense has done well against zones the last two games. If there was ever a first time to win four in a row all year (starting with last night's win)....

I think there will be at least one upset in the first round. If by first round you mean the quarterfinals on Thursday, then I agree. If you mean the Tuesday games, no way. IUPUI and Detroit aren't beating anybody, and though possible, I can't see RMU upsetting P-FW. For the quarters, its possible that any of the top 8 could beat/upset any other. Here's my thoughts on who gets upset from most likely to least likely: - If Noah Reynolds is still out, #3 Green Bay is likely an underdog (the game last night they said GB was "hoping" to have him back next week). Plus they will most like be playing MKE, who just beat them by 21 last night. MKE also doesn't have the long travel disadvantage that others have in getting to GB after playing Tuesday night. Even if Reynolds is back, GB has been somewhat exposed on how to defend their gimmick offense. This is by far the most likely upset of the top 4. - Cleveland State matches up well with #2 YSU. Youngstown won by 25 the first time they played, but that was in November. 3 weeks ago, CSU won by 8 in Cleveland. I still expect YSU to win at home, but would not be at all surprised if CSU pulls it out in a tight game. - Let's hope we aren't the one getting upset. But NKU always seems to hang around against us, and we all know when Warrick gets hot, we just can't stop him. Hopefully he got that game out of his system. I think the Raiders will win, but its never easy to beat a good team 3 times and in 2 consecutive games.
- #1 Oakland is probably the most likely to win (against P-FW, or possibly RMU). P-FW can get hot and score in bunches, but they don't do it consistently. Oakland has been dominant all year. Their only Achille's heel is history -- they have a recent trend of going out early in the tournament, and the #1 seeds in the HL tourney haven't fared well lately. However, this usually happens the first game in Indy, not in the quarters. I foresee Oakland winning by double digits. Having said all that, I hope there are either no upsets, or YSU is the team that gets upset. With no upsets, we get Oakland next. I would rather Wright State play Oakland than YSU in the semi's, and if GB is the only team upset, then we would have to play YSU.

In the last 8 years, the 4 seed has won the HL tournament 4 times: Green Bay (‘16), NKU (‘17, ‘23), and Wright State (‘22).

The men play at 8, because the women host a first round game against Milwaukee at 5:30 before the men’s game. Green Bay also has a doubleheader with their women playing first too. That is way their game is a little later also.

Games kick off tonight, Vegas (Draftkings) agrees with me that Youngstown is the favorite - and they consider it a 3-horse race
YSU +195 OAK +240 WSU +275 _____________________________
All other teams are +950 or higher

I would love to see KK and Andrew regain confidence and hit the 3’s like they can. That could be the push to win the tournament and get us in Big Dance.

Tonights round one games:
Cleveland State beats IUPUI 85-66. CSU lead throughout, and cruised to an easy victory.
Purdue Ft Wayne 78, Robert Morris 63. PFW lead by as much as 24 in the first half, and by 18 at halftime. A furious early second half rally cut the lead to 5, but RMU ran out of gas down the stretch.
Game of the night is Detroit at Milwaukee. Tied with about 3 minutes left. Detroit has led more than MKE, but it has been close throughout. BJ Freeman is single handedly keeping Milwaukee in it, and Detroit has some serious foul trouble late. If you aren't watching, turn this one on. Good game.

Milwaukee survives 83-79 against Detroit. All 3 higher seeds win.
MKE goes on to GB, CSU to YSU, and PFW to Oakland on Thursday. Interesting that all 4 teams that have to travel on Thursday (including NKU at WSU) get to travel to their geographically closest top 4 seed, and thus get a pretty short road trip. I'm sure Cleveland State would much rather travel an hour to Youngstown than have to go to Green Bay, even if YSU is a better team.

On the women's side, Youngstown beat IUPUI, Detroit over RMU, and #9 NKU pulls off the only first round road victory (either the men or women) over #8 Oakland.
