From Stickman on RRB: _______________________________ Vince Baldwin had a recruiting update this morning. 1/24/2005 5:33 a.m.
Wright State is still listed with Kent State, Detroit, Butler, Eastern Kentucky, Rutgers, Bradley, Ohio U., Eastern Michigan, St. Bonaventure and Drake for the sweet shooting floor leader, Keith Mackenzie of Warren DeLaSalle. He had a 36 point outing last week with Kent State watching.
"However, 6'2 combo guard, Aaron Simpson of the U of Detroit (high school) has been red hot and he put on a show last week against Detroit Deporres. Wright State was in the house to watch that performance and are now recruiting Simpson with serious interest." ________________________________________

Aaron Simpson is averaging 15.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on the year. He is not a good shooter, at least acording to his stats. He is 37% from the field, 24% from 3 pt range, and 66% from the free throw line.

Big D, thanks for your recruiting updates. It is something many of us look forward to reading. Your time & effort are appreciated.
Aaron Simpson doesn't sound like he fits our needs. We need a 3 point shooter and he doesn't fill that role.
Big D,how would you rank the guards we are recruiting?

Big D,how would you rank the guards we are recruiting? I don't know everyone we are recruiting, but based on the list of recruits we know about here is how I see it. Keith MacKenzie is the best pure shooter on the list followed by Armon Bassett, Mike Hall, and Kenny Hayes. MacKenzie and Hayes are a true PGs in the way they run an offense. They are very team oriented. Bassett and Hall look to score before they look to pass. If you are rating the guards based on athletic ability, my list would be Jalon Perryman, Chris Knight, and Armon Bassett. Perryman and Knight are Spencer type wing players. I don't think you can go wrong with either one of these guys. Bassett is going to be a finalist for Mr. Basketball in the state of Indiana.

Scout.com updated Craft's player profile. They now list him as a 3 star recruit and had this to say about him: Quote: ------------------------------------------------------------ He's left-handed, 6-foot-11 and athletic. Could be one of the best talents Ed Huckaby and Paul Biancardi have recruited while at Wright State. ------------------------------------------------------------- scout.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=1582270

One thing we need to realize about Craft, is that he has a tremendous upside, but like Parysh Munroe, Craft has only been playing organized ball for a few years, and has much to still learn. I think this is why he flew under the radar of some of the bigger schools. According to earlier information found by Big D, Craft has a good mid-range shot, plays good defense (blocks shots), rebounds, is athletic, and runs the court well. But currently he is not a big time scorer and needs work with his back to basket, not to mention he needs to put on some strength and bulk. So I would not expect too much from James his first year, I think any production from him will be a bonus next year. His immediate value will be defense, and rebounds. But in a couple of years, I expect him to be a real force both offensively and defensively in the middle for WSU.
Actually, I think Walt Chancellor will have a bigger impact next year, as he is stong, bulky, experienced in the post, and already understands about being a good role player (which every good team needs). In recent games for Wabash, Walt has been scoring around 10 or so points and getting close to double digit rebounds, including one double-double.
As far as Craft goes, the good thing is with Pleiman, Burleson, Chancellor, and Munroe, we do not need Craft to be a star in the post on this team his first year. As with most of the freshman this year, he will need to show in practice that he understands team help defense and where he needs to be on offense before he will get much playing time. But once the coaches get to spend some time with Craft, I think he could be a big time player down the road. If we can pick up another good point or shooting guard, then the future is looking pretty darn good for the Raiders.

Just a couple of comments on this recruiting thread.
First, it is terrific to land a "3 star" recruit! I love that Craft is now listed as a "3 star" recruit. Big D, what is Craft's national ranking?
Second, bballraider, I enjoyed and agree with your assesment on Craft. He is a "project" but, like you mentioned, we won't have an urgent need for him next year. It is to bad he doesn't want to redshirt. Speaking of redshirts, I truly wish that Parysh would have redshirted this year. He has so much upside with his physical build and his rugged style of play plus it appears from his limited appearances that he has a nice shot around the rim. He has the shooters "touch" or a "soft" shot. Some times I feel like he "wasted" a year on the bench because I think his last two years are going to be productive ones.
For the record, the use of the term "soft verbal" does scare me a bit. It sounds like Craft might be keeping his options open just a tad.
Third, I wonder if Scott Grote would consider walking on if he doesn't get any offers from Divison 1 schools that he is comfortable with? With his father being a former player you never know. I would take a 6'6" slasher as a walk on any day! If he is good enough maybe he can earn a scholarship down the road.
Last, I love reading about potential recruits so I truly appeciated EVERYONES contributions to this thread!!!!
Go Raiders!!

I was a little perplexed at first the other night by Biancardi's comment that they're looking to use the last "ship" on a point guard. With William Graham in the fold for next year, it can only mean that he must really plan on going with the "two point guards on the floor" strategy that he's mentioned in the past. I suppose if you're going to commit to strategy you need about 3-4 of them on your roster.
GO RAIDERS!!!
