Maybe it's just my disappointment in this season that I'm even contemplating this idea but seriously if we are going to be 2-7 at best when Vaughn returns is it even worth him playing this season when we can extend his stay at Wright State by a year.
Even if Vaughn is able to come back in four weeks it will probably take a week or two to get back into game shape. By this time we are almost a third of the way through league play so is it really worth it to have Vaughn for only 60% of the season.
This years team isn't going to contend for the Horizon League championship any way.
Just something to think about.

Not even an option.

In order, to qualify for a medical red-shirt a player can play no more than 20% of a season (rounded up), I'd imagine he would be pretty close to the threshold. (I hadn't looked) Title, I do not know the NCAA rules but if it is 20% then Vaughn is fine and would qualify for a medical red shirt. We will play a minimum of 30 games this year so 20% would be six games. Vaughn has only played in four games so far this year.

Vaughn won't be eligible for a medical red-shirt. Title didn't completely describe what qualifies you for a medical red-shirt. You have to be injured during the first 20% of your season AND you cannot be healthy enough to return to play that season. Vaughn did get hurt in the first 20% of our season, but he will be healthy enough to play sometime in January. If he is medically cleared by the doctors, he no longer qualifies for the red-shirt.

If he is eligible for a medical red-shirt or not, I don't see Vaughn letting our coaches red-shirt him. He is too much of a competitor to sit on the bench the rest of the year while his teammates get beat up on.

Wright State, if it wanted to redshirt (medshirt) Duggins, could easily say, "The initial prognosis was incorrect -- the injury is more serious than we thought and he will have to miss the rest of the year." Since he only played in four games at the beginning of the year, less than 20 percent of the season, he most certainly could redshirt. But he won't. Blitz, that's not how it works. Duggin's physician has to say that Duggins can't play the rest of the season for him to qualify for that medical red-shirt, not Wright State. Duggin's physician is Dr. Danis and he isn't going to lie so Vaughn can get an extra year of eligibility.

This is a stupid thread. It is't going to happen. The doctors won't go for it. Our coaches won't go for it and Vaughn sure in the hell won't go for it.

Some of our fans need to step back from the ledge. The season isn't over yet. The team is improving and Vaughn will be back in January. We probably aren't going to win the conference. It doesn't mean we cannot have a decent season and even make a run in the HL tournament.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Vaughn. According to Chris Collins he'll also miss the Valpo game for sure.

I don't think he is going to red shirt, but our coaches are going to end up doing what's in Vaughn's best interest.

We need him this year. Winning the HL isn't the only consideration for his return. We need him to finish with a respectable season. We are at a crossroads with the talent division on our roster. If you look at who is playing and who is contributing, you will notice that our juniors ARE our team. Next year is their last season here. I don't have a ton of faith in our underclassmen behind them to be much more than just role players for us. I hope we see more from our incoming 2009 class, but we really need our 2010 recruiting class to be very good. We will be replacing Ronnie, Cory, Todd, JD, and possibly Vaughn. We need to add a few studs in that class. We are currently recruiting for our 2010 class and hopefully most of that class will be signed next fall in the early signing period. That means THIS season is our last chance to make a positive impression on those recruits if we want to sign them early. That's why I doubt we red-shirt Vaughn. I can see it happening if his health is at risk, but otherwise I think we need him to play this year.

Bomber, as much as it bums me out I think you are right on with your analysis of our current crop of sophomores. Between N'Gai, Scottie, Cooper, and Troy I don't see any of them being more then solid role players. All of them have certain strengths but none of them are complete players. I also agree that this next recruiting class is critical to our program. Now I do think that Tyler Koch is going to be a special player and that Darian can be a starter eventually in the Horizon League.
