Well that's fine and dandy....but the status quo isn't going to help this program long term. All these 20 win seasons sure don't seem to be helping them program much. Obviously it bought Brownell his ticket to a bigger school, and good for him. It's obvious the fans are asking for a better schedule, specifically a home one, and at least BD is acknowledging that fact. All we can really do is win the games that we have scheduled for this season. I think we have a very good possibility of winning one, if not maybe both of our games vs 'major' teams. Play strong in conference, and maybe make some noise...and that will lead to a better schedule next year. I think we settled for mediocrity at best with this schedule. The potential is there on the road and in conference, I'm just tired of being lulled the last few years watching our team at home. I miss the excitement that was there during the Butler years (as bad as that sounds)

I do think this team could be scary to some high mid-major and major coaches. We came on strong at the end of the season without Darling and now he is back as well as a lot of contributors. I am anxious to watch Raider Round Ball.

I think most Raider fans agree with the sentiments being expessed here regarding the schedule. If the MAC and other HL teams can schedule better teams why are we left with this schedule? In the past we'd hope for a 20 win season. With this schedule I'd expect 20 wins to be the absolute minimum. But enough of that, I want to postpone talking about scheduling until after this season is over...though that doesn't mean the coaches shouldn't work on the '14-'15 schedule during this season. If we see the same type of schedule next season I may give up my season tickets and just attend the HL games.

It is very hard to get majors to play at a mid-major. It isn't hard at all to get decent mid-majors to schedule home/home contracts especially when you are in a high rated conference like the HL. If you do not believe me, take a look at the schedules local MAC teams are able put together. The MAC is a much lower rated conference than the HL and they are able to put together much better schedules than us. Hell, look at the rest of the HL. We are predicted to be one of the top 2 teams in the conference and we have one of the worsts schedules in the league. The problem isn't that we cannot get good mid-majors to come play us. I believe the problem has been that Brownell and now Donlon want a crappy schedule because they can use it to build their resume. Who do you think Wright State should be trying to schedule?

Personally, I think we should be targeting mid-majors that our fans will recognize and want to pay to see play.

I would consider a good OOC schedule as: 1. A true neutral site tournament with good mid-majors and majors
2. 1-2 buy games where we are bought to play a mid tier BCS program: I want the game to be televised and the opponent to be a team we can compete against. I don't want to be bought by Duke and get our ass kicked by 30 points. I want a team we could beat or at least look respectable against on TV.
3. 1-2 two for one contracts. We just finished a 2 for 1 with UC. We have played Michigan State in the past in a 2 for 1 contract. There are plenty of good teams that would be worth scheduling a 2 for 1 with. We should be targeting teams like Michigan State that has players on their roster that are local to Dayton. I would also be for scheduling an unbalanced schedule with a team like Butler or Xavier if we can make it a multiyear contract. Those 2 schools aren't majors, but we do know that they would fill the Nutter Center and they are teams we would have a legit shot at beating.
4. The rest of our games should be home/home contracts with good mid-majors. We should play teams with name recognition for fans. We should play teams that are located in the states we recruit in the most: Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan. These are the type of teams that make the most sense: Ohio U, Kent State, Akron, Toledo, Evansville, Indiana State, Bradley, Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Murray State, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, and Western Kentucky. And if you look at our past seasons, we have already played most of those schools so it isn't a stretch to think that we should be able to schedule them again.

BigD, I don't think anyone would disagree with you. We all would love to see that happen. I would like to see a 2 for 1 with West Virginia. Would fill the Nutt House and close enough to travel to Morgantown. Hugs may be up to that also.

I agree 100% with BigD and Dr. J. I would add that we should also try to schedule games against any team the HL is trying to recruit. It doesn't have to be advertised as a "potential" member, but it would expose them to HL play and let us see them.
PS...If we don't see this type of schedule next year, we should be very vocal in expressing our disappointment. These sugeestions are all doable.

I don't think we're asking for much...a decent mm team like ourselves should be able to make a competitive schedule with a few buy bids, maybe a MTE, and a few home and homes with other mms, or two for ones against middle grade BCS teams. I think a tune up game is a nice way of getting over the shell shock...but we are all on the same page...something has to change. And they know what the fans want.

Big D - Can we recategorize the scheduling posts to another thread? I keep going "ooh! Breaking information on the team! ...oh, nevermind."
