I hope we don't get any of these losers. We need winning coaches that expect to be going to the NCAA every year. We'll hire someone away from another program or someone with reasonable success getting released from a high major.

If Grant did let Donlon go today, you have to think he already has someone in mind to replace him.

Yes, but they went into a horrible stretch where they were winning 8 games a year, until they finally got a coach to bring them back. They have been totally irrelevant in their league like Youngstown until this year.

Yes, Brad and their AD did not get along. We were lucky he fell into our lap.

I really appreciated Billy's sincerity and passion for Wright State. Disappointed..Just comes down to recruiting. I wouldn't mind seeing if Ron Hunter would like to come home? What next? Hopefully arrow gets pointed up for our program.

Do you give Grant that much credit and foresight to at least have a good candidate wtih mutual interest in mind? I think Grant knows his job is on the line too. I hope he was smart enough to lay the ground work to hire Billy's successor before he let Billy go. If not, that is fine with me too. If Grant F's this up and hires a crap coach he will end up getting fired in the near future. It's win win in my book. We either hire a good coach now or we start over with a new AD and Coach in a couple years. I'm not a big fan of Grant so I won't lose any sleep if he is out too. For the sake of the program, I hope he hits a home run with Donlon's replacement.

I would be excited ... if I had any confidence in Bob Grant finding us someone better.

I hope all the bashers are happy. A good man and good coach is fired and everyone seems elated. This is the profession Billy went into. You don't keep your job because you are a nice guy. You keep your job by winning games and keeping your boss and fan base happy. Wright State is a basketball school. Our athletic department has 3 sources of income: money from the university, money from donors, and revenue from basketball ticket sales. the athletic department has been getting less money from the university due to the university getting less funding from the state of Ohio. That means we need to keep our donors happy and we need to sell more tickets to games. Our attendance has been on the decline since Donlon took over as coach. Some will try to point out that attendance is down across the US. This isn't the rest of the US. Dayton is a great basketball town. UD's attendance is as good as ever. We don't have any trouble getting fans in the stands when we play good competition and are having a good season. Flyin to the hoops has no problem selling out every year for high school basketball games. People in Dayton love basketball and will pay to see exciting basketball. Donlon's style of ball is not something anyone would describe as exciting and he has put together some of the weakest schedules we have had since becoming a D1 basketball program. It has run off many of our fans and donors. I honestly don't think Grant had a choice in the matter. I think he knew that if he didn't do anything he would lose the remaining donors he has and just watch what's left of our fan base disappear. I don't think anyone is reviling in seeing Donlon let go but at the same time I don't feel the least bit sorry for him. Our fans have been more than vocal over the last 6 years voicing our displeasure with playing small ball. We have been very vocal in the fact that we want to see as much emphasis put into our offense as he puts into his defense. If he wasn't so damn stubborn, he would still have a job. I wish him luck with his next job and hope he learns a lesson from what happened here. That being said, I look forward to the next phase of Raider basketball.
