i think we have enough talent at the guard position to handle this departure. i am way more concerned with the Davis loss. i am not at all certain we can replace him adequately. i wonder if coach is looking at any jc types to step in there??

. I'm disappointed we've seen the end of the Alstork era, but I'm not surprised. It's hard to consider it an "era" when he was the third best player on the team and had a negative PER. I would consider saying there was a Julius Mays Era before a Mark Alstork Era. To that point, it's weird: a lot of Raider fans, myself included, felt slighted and angry when he bolted for Kentucky. This seems very different somehow. Julius left and we were all calling him a traitor. Mark leaves and we're all scratching our heads a bit. I think that in itself speaks volumes of Alstork's effectiveness. It sucks to not have his scoring and I wish he would have stayed in a Raider uniform, but I also don't feel like the sky is falling.

I think the main difference is that Julius was a one year guy that had no connection to Raider fans. Mark was a local kid who played here 2 years. Despite his short comings as a defender and his selfish play, I think most fans really wanted him to reach his potential here just because he was a local guy.

That's what makes Mark much more of a traitor than Julius Mays. Mark is a local kid and played here for two years. Now he's bailing on the program? Like I said, I bet he ends up regretting his decision. He loves to score and he will not come close to scoring 19 ppg next year in a new system, IMO. He'll be lucky to score 9 ppg if he goes to that hell hole called Ann Arbor.

He isn't going somewhere else so he can score a ton of points. He wants to go someplace where he can showcase his game IN FRONT OF NBA SCOUTS. He played in front of NBA scouts 2-3 times this year. At a BCS school, he will be seen by scouts every game. I think we all know he doesn't have a shot in hell at the NBA. He thinks he does.

This is like a poorly edited movie trailer. We all know exactly what the plot is, right down to the third act.
MAYBE there's a twist ending at the end of the season, like he completely goes against character and passes the ball to an open teammate instead of forcing one up at the last play of the tournament.
Then he'll go play in Europe.

I got to say if he has that many good teams with open arms he better take one. I don't think he will going to the NBA this year. For a guard he don't handle the ball or take care of it good enough for the NBA. That driving the lane crap and getting to the free throw line for half your average won't work there. He does have a quick release shot and when he gets against smaller opponents he does well driving in college.

I'm surprised someone like Beilein would even want Alstork. But this shows that Beilein must trust Billy Donlon a lot (who I'm sure is pushing for Mark to transfer there).
Beilein is old-school though and I could see Alstork falling out of favor with him very fast, unless Mark completely changes the way he plays the game. If he tries to go 1-on-5 and puts up bad shots in the Big Ten, he'll be a bench-warmer before he knows it. Especially at a program like Michigan that has other talented players.
It is also interesting that Michigan is involved in this but not Ohio State. Thad Matta has gone from one of the hardest-working recruiters in the country to one of the laziest.

Again, I am new to the board so I might always start my posts with "Sorry if you discussed this already" lol --
Mark Asltork met with Iowa State earlier this evening -- He spoke with new Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing on the phone late last week as well. I think Alstork is just soaking in the big programs coming at him now the way he wanted them to come at him years ago. I'm happy for him as I think he deserves it but man I think next season could have been a very solid year with him returning. I still think he ends up with Billy D at Mich but you never know.
