This isn't necessarily a sports topic but I think it is very important to athletics going forward at Wright State. We need a president committed to athletics if we want our athletic department to move in a positive direction. We are down to 3 candidates. The first of which recently toured both WSU campuses and was interviewed below. I would be concerned for athletics if we hired him. He seems more concerned with cutting spending to balance the budget and make education cheaper for students. I want a president that is interested in growing the university, not someone that wants to make us a cheap glorified community college for local students. Wright State presidential candidate Dennis Shields says his focus is on students webapp2.wright.edu/web1/newsroom/2017/02/03/wright-state-presidential-candidate-dennis-shields-says-his-focus-is-on-students/

I'm curious how these 3 became the finalists for the position. None of them have any experience with a D I athletic program and more importantly none of them have any experience with a teaching medical school within their respective institution. Currently they all have leadership positions with smaller, rural, non-commuter schools...The antithesis of Wright State. I'm not sure how that experience translates to WSU.

I don't like the smell of this ... www.theguardianonline.com/news/2017/02/08/chancellor-dennis-shields-moves-to-fire-whistleblower-professor/Chancellor Dennis Shields moves to fire whistleblower professor The first presidential candidate who visited the Wright State University campus is facing speculation after making statements of the firing of a University of Wisconsin-Platteville faculty member. Sabina Burton, associate professor of criminal justice, assisted a student who felt sexually harassed by another professor. Burton claims the administration robbed her of due process rights. Four years later, Burton faces the threat of losing her teaching position.

The firm we hired to run this sucked.

There is no way in hell we should even think about considering Shields. It's embarrassing we even interviewed the schmuck. I really don't like the other 2 candidates either. Why in the hell aren't we looking at someone who is already a president of a university. We are looking at administrators at small schools. We should at the minimum be able to recruit standing university presidents at smaller schools.

My confidence with the Board of Trustees is deeply shaken. It is their responsibility to know what is going on within the University/Administration and to oversee their directions are carried out according to their instructions. Yet over just the last couple of years we witnessed the following:
*Debate Debacle *U.S. Visa abuse/manipulation *Budget Problems
Now we are presented 3 weak finalists for the Presidency and one of them has potential legal baggage he could bring with him...SMH.

I do not think you could find three candidates for WSU president worse than these three.

I agree. All these are from smaller schools too. I think we are a big and reputed enough to get a someone of the rank provosts/asst chancellors from better and bigger schools.

I do not think you could find three candidates for WSU president worse than these three. And we paid Academic Search around $120,000 to narrow it down to those 3. Unbelievable.
