I am in agreement with most people on here about two of the candidates, but am I the only one excited about Cheryl Schrader?
Since most of what is talked about on here is athletics, I'll explain why I think she would be a good president for WSU athletics. I personally went to the open forum for students this week where we had the opportunity to ask questions, and of all the candidates, she is by far the best candidate for WSU athletics. Shields seemed to care less about athletics (and with the news coming out about him, I would be shocked if he were awarded the job), and the other woman was not terribly impressive in any way. But Cheryl Schrader wouldn't just be "the best choice of bad candidates". I actually think she would be a good choice as a whole! Schrader got her bachelor's degree at Valpo, that right there is an athletics asset. She is familiar with the Horizon League and with the athletics situation because she is a Valpo fan (not to mention how fun it would be to see her cheer against her old school). Also, she got her masters and PhD at Notre Dame which we all know is a HUGE athletics university. From there she was the Dean of College of Engineering at Boise State, also a school where athletics has a lot of support. She said in her forum that she and her family are enormous college sports fans, she said "You can't go to Valpo, Notre Dame, and Boise State without being in love with college sports". Not exact quote, very close to that though. So immediately, we would have a candidate who is a sports fan, and not just a fan of because she works there. This is an asset for our athletics! Our baseball program is already among the best in the nation and is the top athletics program in Ohio excluding some of the Ohio State programs and Miami University Hockey. With Coach Nagy at the helm, I am very confident that he can take Wright State to a nationally competitive mid-major team if he receives the support of an administration who appreciates our athletics. (Also, Schrader shared at the forum that she called her son last week, who is a student at Valpo, and told him she was interviewing here and he said "You're going to the enemy... But they have an AMAZING basketball coach", the enemy is afraid of our potential now).
The biggest thing to get Wright State athletics to the next level is support. Financial, administrative, but especially student support. For all of us who went to the game against NKU (I go to all home games), we need that every game. We need a culture of passion for sports and pride in our school. That passion isn't present at the level it needs to be. The fans we have are die-hards, myself included, but it needs a bigger base. Schrader understands that. She spoke about creating a national brand for the university (a goal which is the most beneficial accomplishment at any university) and spoke about how she understands that athletics is the most effective way at creating a national brand! At her currently school, Missouri S&T, she turned them from a commuter school to a residential school. So people are talking about her as someone from a smaller school, with different characteristics, and no similarities. Well, there's plenty of similarities, but isn't different what we want? Don't we want a drastic change of culture and of passion, especially in our athletics? At our 50 year anniversary this year, it is a time to take that next step and advance toward a new level. While I am the biggest advocate for academics as you can find, creating a national brand will be done through athletic success at a high level consistently. WSU has academic programs that are phenomenal and some the best in the country. Creating an environment of successful athletics on a more national stage will show that success in other areas to anyone who hears our name. And it seemed clear to me that Cheryl Schrader understands that. So while I'm not saying she is a perfect candidate, I was pleasantly surprised with her and am very hopeful. WSU has potential like we couldn't even imagine
Go Raiders!

I am deeply disappointed by all three of these candidates and I feel like we are selling ourselves short by not pursuing bigger names with better and more suitable qualifications. I have basically lost all trust in those deemed with the responsibilities of making logical and coherent decisions regarding the future of our university and I just can't fathom what in the hell the 21 members of the Search and Screening Advisory Committee were thinking when they decided upon these three final candidates.

need to bring in 2 people, a new president and a PR/marketing genius to rebrand WSU and improve the school's image. Actually make it 3 people, need to bring in a budget specialist to balance the books. PR/marketing genius is a really good idea. We need a new brand. I've always wondered why our branding and advertisements are so cheesy looking when we have the best creative arts program in the country. Like shouldn't we be able to make a Steven Spielberg caliber commercial? Only good one we have is the Tom Hanks one

Hope the right decision is made so we can put all of THIS behind us. Let's figure out how to clean up that Board of "Trustees" next!

We really need to hope and pray our new president doesn't cut from athletics to make up for WSU's deficits.

Cheryl Schrader is clearly the right choice, she literally has Raider in her name!

" Dear President Schrader: Congratulations on your new title. Welcome to the Wright State family! Now about our mascot..." (tongue firmly in cheek)
