I talked with her a little bit this morning and laughingly noted how Raider is even in her name and together we coined her nickname, Schrader The Raider! And if you wanna get real "rhymey", No Longer A Crusader

Hopkins seems like a nice guy but sheesh what a mess. And the optics of sneaking out before the sh*t really hits the fan...

Stupid DDN. At Wright State pretty much all the athletic programs are core at keeping us at NCAA Division I standing. They don't need Woodward & Bernstein to look into that. Currently we are fielding 1 sport above the minimum NCAA requirement for D I status.

Hopkins seems like a nice guy but sheesh what a mess. And the optics of sneaking out before the sh*t really hits the fan... The other talk is that he left before all of the cuts because he wasn't willing to let so many people go (and yes, I know many people have already been fired. Trust me, as a student, I know). But some think he wasn't going to get rid of masses of people and therefore people wanted him out to get the ball rolling more quickly. And the pay rate for the interim is normal for the school and one of the lowest rates of Ohio schools. Wish it wasn't portrayed so negatively. But alas, only source around here is the university of dayton daily news.

I would think the interim president would lead some pretty massive cuts in advance of our new president's arrival so that she doesn't have so much blood on her hands from day 1 trying to come in making sweeping cuts herself.

That is the word on campus. Apparently he has experience balancing budgets and eliminating deficits. He has done it in the past with huge cuts so that is what we're waiting on. He has been tasked with making the cuts and balancing the budget...in 106 days. Tall order!

Symbolic at best. Golf is an equivalency sport for NCAA scholarship purposes. It's 4.5 'ships for men. It doesn't cost the athletic dept. more than $15k per ship. Under the NCAA's distribution plan beginning with the 14th sponsored sport each institution receives just over $35k, via the SPORTS SPONSORSHIP FUND per sport. The interim "Dr. no" will cost the university 3X more during his short stay here than the men's golf team costs each year. Essentially, the cost of the men's golf team is a rounding error in the $25,000,000.00 the U has to cut in the upcoming budget.

I understand the futility of such a small cut in such a large deficit, but it will be a big deal to someone either keeping or losing their job. This cutting process will be survived. What is more important is the decisions that are made by those at the top in the future. The interim is exactly what we need, a Dr. No

It's not as simple as people, Dr. No, try to make it out. A sport that has no Title IX protection makes for easy pickin'. It's symbolic. Nothing more.

I don't like WSU being in any league that they can't field teams that have conference championships. The league title in baseball doesn't mean that much to me since not everyone has baseball. It's still sweet to get the automatic bid by winning the HL tourney but, it would mean more if there were more teams participating.
There have been years when I knew someone playing golf and I paid some attention. It would be a shame to lose it.
At the last coach's show, Bob Grant told us about the budget and the success of WSU having so many teams playing for a championship final in the preceding 12 months. At the time it included men's basketball but, baseball was the only one that came out a winner for an automatic bid. Anyway, BG said something about being the Ohio D1 team with the lowest athletic budget ( based on a percentage, I think ) and 2nd to last in the league ( to Green Bay ).
Something like that can chip away at whatever you hope as far as competing over the long haul.
If golf is the only casualty then we'll see where we stand. I wish the best for anyone that gets hurt by any cuts.
I've said many times, if you are D1 then act like it. At least, try to keep up with others in the league if not a top 10 conference. I'm sure I would disagree with what it takes to be a D1 program because I believe we have an obligation to field the HL sponsored sports.

It's not as simple as people, Dr. No, try to make it out. A sport that has no Title IX protection makes for easy pickin'. It's symbolic. Nothing more. We could go back and forth about the impact a coach has versus the impact of an instructor all day long, but the only thing that will rise above the debate is that WSU is an academic institution above all else and will remain that. If it comes to cutting athletics and cutting academic programs, the decision will be to cut athletics, as it should be at an educational institution. But I doubt we are going to see much cutting at the athletic end of things, which is great for athletes! We already dont spend much in that area anyways. Many of my friends are athletes at WSU, I have been an athlete my whole life and could have been an athlete collegiately but chose to take a different path. I'm not advocating against them or encouraging cuts towards them. However, just because the debt is large doesn't mean a $30,000 cut won't help or that it should be scrutinized as useless. Do that dozens of times and you start making headway on the problem. I hope golf isn't cut. I think BG has the athletic department in good hands under his leadership. I'll leave it at that, this thread is about the president so I don't want to stray too far off topic.
