We should just stay at 11 or better yet boot IUPUI and drop down to 10 teams.

It doesn't appear to be so based on this Nagy quote: “Playing with seven guys is not easy to do — and it’s going to be an even tougher task Saturday night (at Youngstown State)” Seems really healthy and smart to have kids playing 40 minutes in 2 games within 3 days. Glad HL is pushing these games through. This isn't the HL's decision. It's our team's decision to play Saturday. Our choices are to play with 7 guys or forfeit. We are choosing to play. We are stuck with that decision because most of our team is not vaccinated and unvaccinated players/coaches have to go through an entirely different protocol than those that are. If our entire team was vaccinated and we only had 5 available scholarship players due to Covid, the game would be postponed.

The team made a lot of progress in the right direction since last week's tournament. Saturday is going to be the real test when we play a good team.

I think a more pertinent question is: How many players are going to be in the rotation? With a meat grinder of a 22 game conference schedule, it really needs to be at least 8 deep, if not 9 or 10. Once you get past everyone's top 7, that being Basile, Holden, Calvin, Finke, Voss, Wilborn, & Huibregtse, there needs to be several more getting 10 or so minutes to keep the legs fresh once the February & March grind comes around. I hope Manns overcomes whatever deficiencies (defensive lapses most likely) he has had in the past to be a part of the rotation. His 3 point production is a real asset. I also think Norris may be relied on to help Calvin get a breather at the point. That leaves Welage, Braun, and Noel vying for rotation minutes. It will be interesting to see who among the newcomers steps up this year It would be nice to see us go 10 deep every night. I know Nagy has used a shorter bench for the most part while he has been at Wright State but that hasn't always been the way he has played. His last year at South Dakota State he played 9 guys more than 10 minutes a game and a 10th player averaged 8.3 minutes a game. The year before that 9 guys played roughly 10+ minutes a game (2 averaged 9.8 minutes) and another 3 played more than 6 minutes a game. Those were veteran teams for Coach Nagy and I think that is what really matters to him. He plays guys he trusts to run his system the way he wants and to play good team defense the way he wants. We could go 10-11 deep this year if everyone plays good team defense and contributes on offense. We could just as easily only go 7 deep if Coach Nagy isn't happy with how guys are playing. My guess is that we will use a lot of the OOC schedule to figure out how large he wants his rotation to be. I would like to see us go 10 deep even if 7 guys are getting the majority of the minutes. Like BBJ already mentioned, I think we are going to need several more guys to get some playing time if we are going to be healthy and have fresh legs at the end of the season.
