Don't know where you got that idea. The ASUN is looking to go to 20 teams, period. They don't plan to split into a basketball conference and a football conference. They plan on having a 20 team megaconference to make scheduling easier. It's the same reason the HL is still looking to expand. There is no combination of additions that makes the HL a 2 bid conference moving forward. There are just too many bottom feeders in the league. We are still looking to expand for scheduling purposes only. It's the same reason the ASUN is looking to expand. It was in a press release from the conference. It didn't specify they'd make a football conference and a non-football conference...but with their recent additions its pretty clear football is a part of the future plan So in other words, you don’t know WTF you are talking about and you are just making assumptions. As I have already stated, the ASUN is trying to make a 20 team mega conference to make scheduling easier for multiple sports in their conference. Football is one of the sports they need to find more members for but they have no plans to split into 2 separate conferences. That is what their conference commissioner is selling to the schools they have been adding and the other schools they have approached.

The intial report of the mega-conference seemed to be with the idea that the ASun would form a mega-conference, then split into a basketball conference and a football conference…akin to what the Big East/AAC did, but intentional. With that in mind, Bellarmine has a long way to go. We're hesitant to add provisional D-I teams to the Horizon League. NO CHANCE the MVC rolls that dice. The MVC is looking towards their next couple of TV contracts and how expansion helps them. Their current TV contract ends in 2023/24. Adding Murray State and Belmont and the new media markets they bring to the MVC is going to help them get a better TV deal in a couple of years. They added good teams and more importantly, more inventory for CBS to choose from. The MVC's previous TV contracts have typically been for 5 year periods so their next contract after that should be after the 2028/29 season which is when the MVC should make a decision on if they want to add Bellarmine and NKU/WSU. The next 7 years should be enough time for WSU to show we can keep our finances in order or for NKU to show they weren't a flash in the pan under their previous coach. Honestly, Bellarmine doesn't have much they have to prove to the MVC. They already add the 2 most important things the MVC will be interested in: they are private and they add another big media market to the mix for that next round of TV contract negotiations. If they show that they can be half way decent on the court that only helps them. They are basically they next Loyola. You have to remember that Loyola was added because they were private and they added the Chicago media market even though they completely sucked at basketball for the previous 20 years before the MVC added them. Bellarmine being private is the main reason they are even in the discussion. The MVC presidents will only expand if they can keep the private/public school balance and there just aren't many legit private school options for them to chose from. Their dream additions of St. Louis or UD have no desire to join the MVC. Both are content in the A-10 and both think they have a shot at the Big East one day.

Ok, I was fortunate enough to talk with a person in the athletic department recently. The "Raider Village" was explained to me as a "concept" of connecting all our sporting complexes into a "sports village". In other words this "new" indoor soccer/baseball practice facility that the 1 million dollars was donated towards is not the "first" building in the Raider Village but rather it will help to start to "connect" the rest of the other sporting complexes that are already out there to create a "sports village" feel to the area. In other words we currently have the Nutter Center, basketball Pavilion, baseball field, softball field, and soccer fields that are part of the Raider Village. Eventually they would love to have the nautatorium out their as well. I really like this concept alot. I truly love the idea of having a "sports village" feel to the area around the Nutter Center. So to me personally it really doesn't matter if they put this "new" building up where the pond currently resided or the location that BigD mentioned as a possibility because in either locating it will help to start "connecting" the sporting facilities together. Now I know I'll get booed for this comment ( I probably deserve it ;D ) but if you are going to have a "village" feel to the area I like the idea of keeping the pond to help create a village atmosphere. This is strictly my opinion and not from anyone I've spoken to at WSU. Thanks for the update. That’s not an update. That’s a 13 year old post, lol

As I just mentioned, the MVC might not be done expanding. They could easily pouch, NKU, Wright State, or Milwaukee if they wanted. None of those schools would pass up that invite. The ASUN is also getting aggressive with expansion as I mentioned above. If they add Southern Indiana, I could very easily see them going after NKU and Wright State as well. Very well thought out and written post Rowdy. The above scenario is what several Wright State fans have expressed to me recently in private. We have been overlooked in recent MVC expansion because of our school's finances. It has been our biggest weakness that is hard for other conferences to overlook. The really good thing about the MVC's recent additions is that is solidifies their conference and it does move their geography to favoring us in the future if they decide to expand again. The MVC has also been very meticulous in their selection process. They aren't going to rush into expansion just to expand. They have a very solid conference right now. Bellarmine makes a great deal of sense for the MVC in the future. They are private. They help bridge the gap between Belmont and other MVC schools and they are located in a great media market. The are still in the process of becoming a full D1 member institute. That helps Wright State out. the MVC isn't going to rush into adding Bellarmine. They are going to want to see how they do the next few years as a D1 member before they would extend an invite. That time helps us in 2 ways. I have said for the last few years I think NKU is a flash in the pan. They joined the HL at the right time with just the right coach and their best player in school history. They weren't that good last year and I don't see them competing for a HL championship this year either. A few more years of them being a middle of the pack HL team only makes us look better to the MVC. That time also gives Wright State the time we need to add back 3 sports teams to bring us back to the D1 minimum. It also gives us time to get our enrollment back up and finances in better standing. Over the next 3-4 years if we keep ourselves at the top of the HL and show that our finances are back on track, we become a very desirable addition to another conference. It's just one more reason our fans should take advantage of the link below to donate to our athletic department today. It's one thing to support our teams on this message board. It takes real fans who donate to those teams for them to have the resources they need to excel. You don't need to be a multimillionaire to donate. Any dollar amount helps. www.givecampus.com/schools/WrightStateUniversity/intercollegiate-athletics-2021
