I just want to welcome Coach Nagy to WSU and wish him continued success. I also wish Billy Donlon success in his future.
I think this hiring will bring interest in WSU basketball as well as success. I also hope that this hire can can bred some renewed respect for the HL, which we all need.
I do have one question. What does this mean to our current scholarship players, including the incoming players. If we are fully filled up that would not the best situation for a new coach who is expected to show some early success. He will have inherited a decent team without the prospect on showing "his" recruiting ability.

Will certainly be renewing my tickets. Great hire. Have to assume he has a nice staff - would welcome his assistants as well - maybe leave a spot open for someone with local recruiting ties.
Nice job Grant - I'm a little surprised but very happy. Hard for anyone to argue against this hire. On paper we upgraded for sure.

Reports are that Grant had the coaching candidates meet with the team as part of the interview process. I'm sure we'll hear more about that at press time.

He will have inherited a decent team without the prospect on showing "his" recruiting ability. I think Nagy will sit down with each player and have a realistic conversation about how that player fits into his system and expectations for that player. I'm sure some will leave and some will be encouraged to leave if they don't fit what our new coach wants. I don't think he will force anyone out but I don't think he is going to encourage someone to stay if they don't have a chance to help the team. Every coach has this talk with his players at the end of each season. As we all know, Billy had 1-4 players leave each year after having this talk. Some left on their own, others were encouraged to look for other opportunities.

Has anyone ever watched SDSU play or know anything about Nagy's coaching philosophy or style of play? It sounds like we got South Dakota State's equivalent to Underhill or Kampe, longtime coach taking them from Division II to I. He probably has done everything he can at SDSU, but how much of a learning curve will he have here? Can he win now with Donlan's players? Given the additional resources available to him at WSU, should we expect him to recruit and schedule at a higher level than he had to do at SDSU in the Summit league?

Very excited about this hire! Kudos to Grant. This is about as good a hire as we were going to get. I'll be interested to see the state of the roster in the coming weeks and what Coach Nagy does with the current players.
I hope for major success for this program, as it's always had the potential to have, and Nagy. I also wish Billy the very best. He's a great guy and deserves all the success that may come his way.

Agree, seems like a lot of pieces fell in to place for this to happen. But it did.

Is there anyone not happy with the hire? Seems like everyone wanted a guy like Nagy but perhaps didn't expect Grant to land that solid of a guy. Also would be thrilled if the center Love-Vollbrecht made the change in commitment with Nagy.
