I don't like to interfere with someone's honest opinion but, I'd like Big D to consider what I am about to propose. If I participate in the basketball portion of the message board, could everyone please start with a clean slate?
No matter how good or bad we do, I promise not to compare the past with the present.
I think we are all on board and hopeful for the future. We will NEVER know if Scottie Pippen's Bulls could sweep Curry's Warriors and we'll never know if a player or team would be better or worse if someone other than Scott Nagy is at Wright State.

Has anyone ever watched SDSU play or know anything about Nagy's coaching philosophy or style of play? It sounds like we got South Dakota State's equivalent to Underhill or Kampe, longtime coach taking them from Division II to I. He probably has done everything he can at SDSU, but how much of a learning curve will he have here? Can he win now with Donlan's players? Given the additional resources available to him at WSU, should we expect him to recruit and schedule at a higher level than he had to do at SDSU in the Summit league? Yes. If Coach lacked anything at SDSU, it was resources. At SDSU we have 20 sports at least not sure of the exact count, but football has been a real big resource eater. We are opening a new 19,000 seat stadium this fall. Plus we have equestrian to equal out genders in awarding scholarships. South Dakota historically has been a low wage state, based on agriculture being so much of the economy and this affects coaching salaries. I once lived in Dayton and worked at the Reynolds & Reynolds Co so am familiar with Dayton. No doubt there have been a bunch of changes since I left in 1976. Your offers in salary was a surprise and I certainly do not blame Coach Nagy for coming to Wright State. He going to do a great job for and his team will always be prepared. In close games he was criticized for not calling time outs. His explanation was that his guys knew what to do so calling time out gave the opponents an opportunity to change their defense or get different people in the game. A very savy coach in my opinion.

This is a well written story and it appears Coach Nagy gave the reporter all the details. This what Scott Nagy is like, and when you meet in person, he is very much on the quiet side and almost introverted until you start talking hoops. Then he lights up. I known him for years and we are really going to miss him in Brookings SD and SDSU.

Can it just be two years from now already? It's not even summer and I'm already anxious to watch this team win.

I agree with Coach Nagy. The 2016-17 Raiders can be good if he gets everyone (except Rod Davis who is no loss) to stick around, plus he somehow adds a big man recruit in the late signing period (JUCO would be preferable, or grad student transfer that is eligible immediately).
Alstork, Hughes, Benzinger, Mitchell, Mortensen, Ernsthausen, Vest, Winchester, etc is a decent core of players. That's if they all stick around.

Does that interview happen to be archived anywhere? I'd love to listen to it if possible. Or if anyone has a recap of what he's said, that would be great as well!

The timing of this is funny because I was thinking about this when I saw the thread about Billy's defense. Can't speak for anyone else but, whether Nagy does good or bad, the only person I'll compare him to is Coach Nagy himself.
I assume other things increase as well for the basketball budget...assistants, travel, scheduling. I hope so anyway.
I once heard ( you can see why I might believe it when I make the point ) that Title IX requires that the women's coach make at least a certain percentage of the men's coach. ( It's okay by me but, something else to throw out there ).

( It's okay by me but, something else to throw out there ). Not completely true. WSU has to spend a certain percentage of their overall budget on women's sports compared to men's sports. It doesn't necessarily have to be spent on coaching salaries. It's the reason why most colleges have more women's sports than men's sports because universities spend more on men's coaches so they balance that out with more sports for women.
