I think there is a need at point guard. I like Cole and think the world of him as a player but he’s limited at his size. Great distributor but could use some size and scoring beyond an open 3 at that position. He was a lot of the reason we turned things around this year though. Having a frosh play right away in a backup role at point guard would be nice. It would be nice to get Grant’s offense next year but we’ll see what they decide there. He may need a year like Mike Daum did. Is Wampler a 3?i see 6’6” and know he can shoot - if he can be a stretch 4 that would really open up things for Lou down low when teams are forced to choose to double. Winchester and Parker cant knock down long range shots consistently and Mark Hughes is streaky. Hard thing is we lose one guy from a 7 man rotation and gain 2 in Manns and Wampler so we’re at 8 already. Parker and/or Manns off the bench to spell Lou. Hughes and Cole at the guards, Wanpler at the 3 and maybe Winchester at the 4?? I think we play at least one of the true freshmen right away.

This is speculation on my part but I've heard coach Nagy mention a couple times on his show this year that Skyelar Potter " has a D-1 body already and would be one of our better shooters" so if I had to guess who might not be redshirted it would be Potter. So based on this assumption this would be my best guess on next years team.
Redshirt:
Grant Basile Malachi Smith Jeremiah Davenport
Nine players who see playing time:
PT - Gentry/Hall SG - Mark Hughes/ Skyelar Potter SF - Wampler/Hall PF - Winchester/Manns C - Love/Parker
Jaylon seemed to run the point whenever Cole was out so I see him still backing cole up but Jaylon will probably log most of his minutes at the SG or SF positions. Because Jaylon can play multiple positions I see him playing a lot of minutes. Obviously Hughes and probably Potter can also play the SF/wing position as well. I see the 2 and 3 spots being pretty much the same position.
I'm sure you can mix and match them multiple ways and come up with different combinations for starting lineups but I think this might be our 9 players regardless of who starts.
BTW.....I loved the video's of all our new players!

Potter plays in the semifinals in less than a hour at Rupp arena. Should be able to pick that game up on the radio.

Hall is a good player for us and has the potential to be a great one for us in the future. He isn't a PG and I think playing him there is a waste of his talent. He played there this year because we had no one else besides Cole due to Mitchell quiting. I think Smith should play. He has a D1 body and is a better PG candidate than Hall.

Potter play any PG in high school or just SG?

Potter played the 3/4 for his team In the past. He played the 2/3 for his team this year. No pg experience.

I agree with Big D about Hall as a PG. I think Smith getting 10-15 min behind Cole would work well. Hall could start at the 3 or would be an ideal sixth man because of his versatility. I know a guy who follows U of Kentucky hoops thoroughly and he said Potter is a good one and said if he wasn’t signed that he thinks UK would have pursued him. I think he is the dynamic player with scoring potential that needs to play.

Big D
I could see where Malachi isn't redshirted and backs up Cole. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out and who is and isn't redshirted.

There are a lot of variables that will go into it. Hopefully all the new guys start classes this summer so they can get into the weight room and start open gym workouts with our returning players. Hope everyone stays out of trouble this summer. Hope everyone stays in good standing academically. Hope everyone stays healthy and shows up for the start of practice in great shape so it is a really hard decision for our staff to decide who to red shirt.
I think the biggest thing that kept us from winning the HL and making a run in the NCAAs is our lack of depth. Our shooters weren’t making shots the last 1/4 of the season like they were earlier in the year. That means we had tired legs in my opinion. If we had 2-3 more guys all season to rotate in and keep everyone fresh, we would have had one hell of a team. I think we can have that team this year if everything falls into place.

I really hope Parker can beef up and work on his footwork to pick up a little speed and open up his game with his drop step, etc. With his length he could be a really great asset besides just absorbing fouls and minutes. There were so many instances this year where he was a half step or some muscle away from really having a great finish and making some great plays. When he and Love are rolling and sharing the ball down there like they did some this season, it really opens things up.

I would like to see Parker strengthen his legs so that he can finish plays at the rim instead of floating to the basket. All in all, I think that every Raider learned something in Thursday's game that they can improve on for next season.

I was at one of the Radio Shows where Nagy was commenting on Grant Basile. It was after the trip to Wisconsin and Nagy and staff stayed over in Milwaukee to watch Grant play on a Tuesday night. The video is on this thread and on the recruiting page. He went for 39 points and I believe 20 some rebounds. Nagy commented that the staff may have to re-evaluate a redshirt season for Grant. Nagy then made a comment where he compared him to Mike Daum who he recruited at SDSU. It will be interesting to see who plays next year, but regardless of who sits out 1 year and who plays, this is one heck of a recruiting class coming in.

Basile is so smooth with the ball and can be a disrupter/shot blocker on defense. Go through his videos on the recruiting board. He's got game. The only knock I can see on him is his bulk. He's about the same shape Parker was in a year ago, but 3 inches shorter. Once he gets some muscle, I could easily see him playing the 4 with Love at center and just running the league together. I can't wait to see this dude in a Raider uniform.
