Thursday, March 8. Palm kept us as #15 playing UC in Detroit. Lunardi kept us as #15, but moved us to Nashville vs UNC. March 7 our avg. seed was 14.96 per Bracket Matrix. www.bracketmatrix.com/

To move to a 14, Raiders need a few upsets in MM tournaments down the stretch. Had one last night in CUSA. Unfortunately, that hurts the Raiders, not helps. The remaining seeds are the 2,3,4 and 9 seeds. 2-3-4 all have a better RPI than we do. If the 9 (Southern Miss) wins, that would help us, but the other 3 (Old Dominion, NKU, Marshall respectively) would not.
Several tickets still left to be punched. Here's some quick thoughts on what WSU should be looking for.
American East: 1 Vermont vs 2 UMBC. UMBC would likely be seeded under WSU, Vermont over WSU. MEAC: Doesn't matter. Winner of that is likely a 16 seed. All RPIs are in the 250+ SWAC: Same story here, nobody better than WSU in their tournament. MWC: Nevada is in the tournament. But if someone were to steal that tournament, like a Utah State or New Mexico, it would likely bump us up. MAC: No real locks here, Buffalo is the favorite to win the tournament, but if a Kent State were to win, that would help us out. Big Sky: Doubt anyone here will be seeded above us, but rooting for the underdog always helps. Southland: Doubt anyone here will be seeded above us either. SFA is always a darkhorse in the Southland. WAC: If anyone knocks off New Mexico State, it will be a shock. But if Seattle or Grand Canyon do, that's a boost for WSU. Big West: Raiders should root for anyone besides the 1 seed (UC Davis). Ivy: Hard to call here, but the 1/4 and 2/3 games are tomorrow. A10: Locks in the form of URI for certain, let's just hope they win the tournament. Sun Belt: If the 1 seed Lafayette runs the table, they'll certainly be seeded above us. Otherwise, the conference winner will likely be seeded below us.

Also, looking at the 15s, we have the highest RPI of the group who has already completed their tournament. UC-Davis is the only 15 ahead of us, but is still in their tournament. If they get knocked out, we'd likely be the first 15 seed, so if a team like Vermont, Buffalo, or New Mexico State were to fall, then we could easily move up to the 14 line.

Wsuraider09 -- spot on and agree with most of what you said. As I had posted in another thread, I think there's a decent shot at us getting a 14 still. In fact, It's interesting that RealtimeRPI.com has us as a 14 seed playing Purdue in Dallas. See their Bracketology. ESPN and CBS still have us as a 15. ...

I've got zero interest in playing Purdue. That's not a team that we can beat, and that's not a team we will show well against either. Isaac Haas will have a field day down low. Our best chance to win is against a team without a giant in the middle, and Purdue has arguably one of the best ones in the country. We would match up much better against a guard-oriented team. I know there's not an ideal choice, but we'd play better against MSU, NC, Michigan, Tennessee, etc.

I totally agree with you 09 about not matching up well with Purdue. They have another 7 footer besides Haas. Purdue can play Love 1 on 1 and cover up our 3 point shooters all night. I hope Im wrong but I think that's who we get.

It's going to be a very tall task no matter who we play. That being said — and call me crazy if you want — but I have seen Purdue play several times and have not been blown away. They look impressive at times but other times seem to fade and can be inconsistent that way. Haas would get his, sure, but I don't see that matchup as a terrible one. Hey, Love could get Haas in foul trouble — or yes, it could go the other way. BUT, if the refs let each kid play physical I don't think Love will back down for a second and he could give Haas, who is far less mobile, some headaches. The pressure would be solely on Purdue or any team we play. Play loose, have fun, enjoy the journey.

I think Duke ends up being a 1 seed

Duke has a big game tonight against UNC. Duke carving up the ACC tournament surely locks up a one seed. Otherwise, I think it's up in the air. Another team I'm not really interested in playing, but better then Purdue.
I'm more interested in where we play as opposed to who we play. It would be great to play close to home where our fans could have a chance to show up. Also, if we can avoid Duke in Charlotte, Tennessee in Nashville, etc. we can have the support of the neutral fans in the arena. Just another .02

Morning of March 10 update: SI. com has us vs #2 Duke in Charlotte Lunardi has us vs #2 Cincinnati in Pitt Palm has us vs #2 Purdue in Detroit I'm probably in the minority on this, but I'd rather get a matchup with UC in Pitt or Detroit than Purdue or Duke (particularly Duke in Nashville or Charlotte). UC didn't really pull away from CSU until the last five minutes of the game when they played, so there is that common opponent. Plus, Loyola did something UC didn't, which is beat Florida. It'd be a good story too considering the ties our roster has to the Cincy area. Plus, a win would probably help a lot for SW Ohio respect and credibility for WSU basketball, especially since our last two games against XU and OSU were total boondoggles...

Duke would certainly bring the most eyeballs and exposure for the program. Purdue would probably be the worst matchup from a national interest perspective.
