Monday, Nov. 12, results.
Youngstown State gave up 83 points to D III Heidelburg in a 106-83 win. In case you forgot to give ESPN $5 to watch the Berg's high octane offense you can see them live in January as they'll be down the road for a conference game in Wilmington.
UIC Flames went up in flames last night in squandering a 11 point halftime lead at Duquense, losing 89-88 in OT.
The Detroit Titans allowed the Butler Bulldogs to improve their series dominance in Indy to 25-9 by taking a 84-63 licking to the dawgs.
With yesterday's results the HL is now tied with the OVC (RPI #17) and SWAC (RPI #23) with the 2nd most D I losses. Only the MEAC (12 members) has more overall D I losses...by 2.
That's pretty damn ugly considering a peer conference, the OVC, has 2 more members playing games and has played 2 fewer non D I games than the HL. But, that's why the OVC is rated #17 the Horizon LeCrone #28. The SWAC, with 10 members, has also played 2 fewer non D I games and is in the process of their annual beatdown buy games to fund their athletic departments. The SWAC has already played at 8 P-5 programs (HL 4 games @ P-5) and as a conference has hosted only 1 home game vs D I competition (Southern vs Louisiana Monroe).

Tuesday, Nov. 13, results.
In front of a cozy crowd of 951 in the cavernous Wolstein Center Cleveland State locked down the HL's only victory of the night, beating the Blue Knights of Urbana, 94-65. In case you forgot to give ESPN $5 to watch the Blue Knights you can...well, you know the deal...they're just up the road if you want to watch them.
In keeping with the trend UIC started Monday both Oakland and Milwaukee blew halftime leads on their way to a loss. Oakland lost at home in OT to Western Michigan, 87-77. Milwaukee lost at Florida International, 86-83.
Through Tuesday's games the HL is tied with the Southern Conference (PRI #20) for the 2nd fewest D I wins (3). Only the MEAC (RPI #29) and SWAC (RPI #28) who are both on their Nationwide Buy Games Beat Down Tours have fewer D I wins (2). Ironically their RPI's are better than the HL...it has slipped all the way down to #31.

Wednesday, Nov. 14, results:
It needs to be stated again...IUPUI over Boston College, 76 - 69. The above post wasn't a typo....
North Florida 95, Edward Waters College (NAIA) 83.
Indiana State 80, McKendree (D II) 63.
Radford 63, Notre Dame 60. UIC's loss to the Highlanders doesn't look so bad now...
Bradley 74, Jacksonville State 65.
SMU 98, Western Carolina 65. In their 3 losses the Catamounts are allowing 90.33 points.
With yesterday's 2 wins the HL's RPI improved to #30.

The HL, or the Horizon Lecrone's as someone on here has so aptly come up with, is now 5-19 vs D1 teams. And according to Real Time RPI, the HL is now dead last in Conference RPI rankings at #32. See the link below. But now that the NCAA is no longer using the RPI for choosing and seeding NCAA teams into the tournament, does anyone have a link to the new NET rankings? I have surfed around the 'net and haven't found one yet. realtimerpi.com/rpi_conf_Men.html

So, the new NET rankings aren't available yet. It's my understanding the NCAA will release their first ranking in early December. They have publicly stated what the criteria is, but have obfuscated the weightings along with mudding up the waters by incorporating a Google algorithm that is supposed to "reward teams that beat good teams." I'm not sure what the hell that means. The algorithm is supposed to be predictive, but if it's subpar and the NCAA isn't transparent with the formula who is to know what a good team is and who was rewarded?? The cynical side of me leans toward the algorithm will define "good teams" as any member in a P-5 Conference. So, those who win games vs those "good teams" (e.g. Rutgers) will be rewarded.
I guess it's possible some smart people may be able to take all the publicly available data and reverse engineer a model that replicates the NCAA's NET. At least that's what I'm hoping for and when they do they'll let everyone else know how the system works.

mrose, your cynicism is understandable. Anyone who believes this new NET Metric will be advantageous to anyone outside of the P5/6 is delusional

Thursday, Nov. 15, results:
Playing on the ugliest basketball court in America the UIC Flames opened their home season with 100-95 OT win over William & Mary. And, of a side note, the Flames announced the ugliest court in America will now be in the renamed Credit Union 1 Arena....If the Illinois Trustees agree to the $9.95 Million naming rights. The Trustees actually have to think about this no-brainer deal and can't make a decision until January...SMH...which by that time Credit Union 1 will have realized they just overpaid by $9.95 Million to have their name on the UIC Pavilion and pull their nearly $10 million off the table.
UDM didn't lose to Cal. The game to be played indoors was cancelled due to poor air quality created by the fires. As a side note, the outdoor football game vs. Stanford scheduled this Sat is still on and is not affected by the poor air quality. Got to love left coast logic...
Penn State falls to 2-1 after OT loss at DePaul, 72-70.

It would be interesting to know how many of the Horizon League away games have been 'buy games'. You could probably look at them and guess pretty accurately.

It would be interesting to know how many of the Horizon League away games have been 'buy games'. You could probably look at them and guess pretty accurately. Through yesterday the HL has played 5 buy games...of the 25 D I games played. IUPUI at X. Milwaukee at B.C. UDM played at Butler, YSU at Pitt, and CSU at Davidson. UDM's game at Temple and Cal were part of a MTE (Legends Classic) in which Detroit actually gets to host games (BGSU, Loyola-MD, Hampton). Green Bay played at Iowa and their game at Oregon are part of a MTE, but they were too stupid to figure out how to host at least one game--like UDM, Wright State, UIC, Cleveland State, etc. So, the Phoenix will be playing this weekend out in the middle of the Palouse along with UMKC, Morehead, and Eastern Washington. UIC's game at Notre Dame was part of a MTE in which the flames got to host Bill & Mary last night... IUPUI's game at B.C. and tonight's game at Richmond is part of a MTE. Tonight Milwaukee takes another pay check from U.C. and Oakland gets one from UNLV.

it is shameful that no one is held accountable for the free fall that is hl basketball. it makes me think that membership leadership don’t really care. I must say the lecrone “policy” of playing 2-3 non div i teams to help our rpi has been a flaming failure!! Has anyone in authority challenged that policy and suggested trying a different scheduling model?? Someone should!
