Through one weekend of league play, the only real surprise was our bed shitting to UIC.
NKU cuts through IUPUI and UIC and jumps out as the early favorite in the league.
Oakland and Detroit both sweep through CSU and YSU. Oakland got a tough matchup from the Penguins at the Beeghly, but no other tight contests to spreak of there.
In the lone travel partner cross match, the Phoenix went into Panther arena and dropped 92 on Milwaukee behind a 53 point second half in a comeback win.
Standings after one weekend:
NKU 2-0 OAK 2-0 UDM 2-0 GB 1-0 UIC 1-1 WSU 1-1 UWM 0-1 CSU 0-2 IUPUI 0-2 YSU 0-2
FWIW, NKU is the only team who hasn’t dropped a home game, and WSU and CSU are the only two team winless on the road.
Next weekend the NE Ohio teams travel to Wisconsin, WSU and NKU travel to Michigan (Thurs/Sat) and Friday UIC heads to IUPUI.

scary that WSU is winless on the road as they are getting ready for 5 straight games on the road. This is where you hope out tougher scheduling this year helps us out. All of those road losses were against teams ranked higher than most of the teams we are going to face in the HL.

All of those road losses were against teams ranked higher than most of the teams we are going to face in the HL. Our lone home win vs a Q 2 (Toledo) didn't help us win against a lower ranked Q 4 (UIC) at home. To take it a bit further, our avg. win has a NET ranking of 194. Currently there are 5 other programs in the HL with a better NET ranking. I'm not in the camp our non-con schedule helped prepare this team this season. Time will tell, but I think this weeks games will shed light on where this team will end up in the final standings. I'm worried UDM's backcourt will expose our lack of depth and overall D I talent in the backcourt...

I am in the camp that our tough OOC schedule is going to help us in HL play

I agree. We have played only a few “easy” games and the outcome of them were big wins (albeit some slow starts in games we should not have struggled with in the first half). While no one here has been blown away by this team yet, we are still only a half dozen baskets away from being a two loss team or so. I am not saying we deserved to win any of the close games we’ve lost (except maybe the SMU game where they actually played very well), but we could have taken them. I do think the schedule will help, and the only thing holding this team back right now is confidence. So this road trip will either spark a great conference season, or put another nail in the coffin. I believe it will be the first, hopefully.

We just need some timely baskets to go in and we will be fine. If could make some layups go in the basket and stay down we would be good to go. Love has to start making bunnies and go strong to the basket. Slam dunk some balls instead putting up weak shots.

If you’re getting bored of watching the Raiders miss free throws and the zebras with their worn out whistles, there’s a good one going on between HL’s top 2 teams and NKU and Oakland are separated by only 1 point

Oakland beats NKU in a thriller. Who would’ve guessed the Detroit teams would be leading after 3 games

Oakland beats NKU in a thriller. Who would’ve guessed the Detroit teams would be leading after 3 games Davis (UDM) is potential NBA talent. I mentioned it above, we don't have the talent to compete at that level in the backcourt. And with all his quirkiness his dad can recruit, fill-in the pieces around him, and coach a bit. I said it back in April, that was a good hire for UDM. Detroit might be the place where Mike Davis puts it all together...a lost fan base with low expectations and an Administration willing to tolerate the ups and downs that come with Mike. NKU was upset (We weren't), but winning the first 2 in Northeast Ohio by the teams up north was sorta given.

I don’t think any of our opponents games matter now. At this point it looks like we will have to win 4 straight games in the Horizon Tourney to get the play in NCAA tournament play in game.

Unfortunately Ball State destroyed Toledo last night. We now share the title with Ball State as the only teams to beat Toledo. Some saying Toledo is good enough to mount a legitimate challenge against Buffalo in the MAC. It is the one highlight game of our season and should be of any season really. It was a great accomplishment

Second weekend of league play has wrapped up and Green Bay has an early hold on the league after a buzzer beater to knock off CSU and an overtime victory against Youngstown at the Resch. Travel partner Milwaukee split the series after being surprisingly thumped by YSU then won a tight game against CSU.
In other games, it was all splitsies in Michigan as WSU was blown out at Detroit but rebounded at Oakland while NKu was upset at the Oakland Orena but got back on track with an 18 point drubbing of Detroit.
The weekly cross town game saw IUPUI upset UIC by 2 on the Flames home hardwood.
Updated standings:
Green Bay 3-0 Oakland 3-1 NKU 3-1 Detroit 3-1 WSU 2-2 IUPUI 1-2 UIC 1-2 UWM 1-2 YSU 1-3 CSU 0-4
Next weekend finds the Wisconsin teams visiting east Michigan, the NE Ohio teams heading to UIC and IUPUI and WSU traveling to NKU in a nationally televised contest on Friday night.
