The UC AD and the money people behind UC Athletics wanted Cronin gone. Last fall they offered him a contract extension that would actually cut his pay. He inherited a program that was in total disarray after Huggins left and got them back on the national stage. UC will be hard pressed to find a better coach than Cronin. NKU’s Brennen Am I interpreting this right? Are you suggesting that UC would hire Brennen as a replacement for Cronin? I can’t see UC stooping so low as to make that hire but crazier things have happened I suppose.

Fox19 out of Cincinnati is reporting that Brannen is an early candidate for the opening. It certainly doesn't seem like a reach based on all the fan support on twitter.

UC is a perennial March Madness powerhouse. I understand that Brennan has done a very good job with NKU in his time there, but you can be certain that UC fans would be irate over a hire like this and I think it would be seen as a step down for their program. The Horizon League and the AAC are two different galaxies and if I were a betting man I would say that Brennan's name will be on the short list, but it ends there.

Here is UC's coaching candidate thread from their message board. It is currently 7 pages long and there are only 2 posts where anyone said they were not in favor of Brannen. Guess your time in China has you out of touch with what is going on down in Cincinnati. 247sports.com/college/cincinnati/Board/40/Contents/Cincinnati-Bearcats-Basketball-Coach-Hot-Board-131053930/Just found this thread on another UC message board. Their fans don't seem to have a problem with their next coach coming from the HL. Not only are they talking about Brannen, but they are also talking about Nagy. www.bearcattalk.com/showthread.php?t=12324

It’s going to be Brannen or Van Exel or whatever his name is. I can’t decide if I want him gone or not. Double edged sword

What as the reaction of UC fans when Cronin was hired?

I’d be pretty shocked if Nagy makes the shortlist to be honest but I love the respect they give him

Amazing that fans would be ok with a hire like that. I don't see the logic in it but I guess we'll see what happens.

Most coaching changes are either an assistant coach from a power 5 school taking over a lower rated program or a successful mid major coach moving up the ladder. I don’t get why you think UC is above hiring a coach from the HL. Clemson hired Brownell after he had less success at WSU than Brannen has had while he has been at NKU. Valpo and Butler lost multiple coaches to power 5 jobs. Hell UC isn’t even in a power 5 conference.

Chris Mullin has decided to leave as coach of St. John's. Bobby Hurley is rumored to be their target to replace Mullin.

(Cronin - Murray State, Huggins- Akron)
