You keep hearing about Brannen being possibly the top pick for Cincinnati. I'm not sure though he would be the best pick. Maybe because he was an assistant down south I feel like he would be a better fit at an SEC School.
Nick Van Exel would be an exciting hire for UC fans.
It's interesting how the Ucla job is not quite attractive as it used to be.
It was definitely time for Cronin to go. He did a great job in a sense but rarely won the big games. It kind of reminds me of Wright State with Donlon transitioning to Nagy. Donlon a very good coach but couldn't quite get them in the Ncaa's.

John Brannen continues to be a target in the UC coaching search. There's lots of alumni and fan support for Brannen on message boards across the web. UC seemed to be lock in on South Carolina's Frank Martin, but Martin came out and announced he was staying at SC.
Other names are floating around (per someone on Twitter with "sources", but his profile looks legit) include Bryce Drew, Darren Savino (current UC assistant), and Craig Smith (Utah St.).

Cincinnati Enquirer reporting the leaders to be the next UC coach are either John Brannen of NKU or Matt McMahon of Murray State. These are decent coaches and good people. Both of these coaches would be interesting choices to lead UC.

There is a very obvious choice here. And everyone on this board should know who it is. Brannen took a D2 program that was awful in his first year to a powerful mid major program (with McDonald of course but still). McMahn has done a great job at a program that was already very good with the help of a top 2 lottery pick in his most successful years. Not discrediting him whatsoever, but I think one is more proven than the other and makes more sense

No suprise here. Good Choice. Now who does NKU go after? Bryce Drew maybe?

I think that Coach Brannen helped bring NKU to a good place in a short time, but I think that Drew McDonald had as much to do with the rise of that program as any other factor. Brannen coached McDonald all 4 years, but the prior coaching staff was responsible for bringing McDonald to NKU.
We'll see how Brannen's style works at UC, and how effective he will be in a tougher recruiting environment. I like UC, but I think that we have the better coach and I'm glad that he is still at WSU.

Wow! I was so wrong. I still cannot understand how UC makes this hire but this will be fun to watch.

Sucks for NKU but it’s good for us. NKU will lose most if not all of their incoming recruits and have to go through a rebuilding process. It really opens the door wide open for Wright State to dominate this league the next couple of years.

He could wait for a better offer but lotta feel he got rail roaded at Vandy. If Nku goes after Drew NKU will not drop off much. If they promote an assist they not drop off at all.
