Despite a slew of injuries, Raiders topped NKU 6-2 today. It was a tight game until the good guys knocked in 3 in the top of the 9th.
Taking this series puts us in firm control atop the leaderboard.

Raiders snuck by NKU 3-1 despite being outhit by the Norse 8-7. Top 4 of our lineup were a combined 0-12, but some timely offense by the back half of the lineup plus another gem by Sebastian Gongora gives us our 17th straight victory over the Norse and a sweet series win with several key pieces nursing injuries. Luikart gets the save, Gongora the win.

It was cold and windy today at the NKU game. That NKU stadium is the worst Div 1 stadium I have ever seen. It features seating for about 50 fans behind home plate and maybe room for another 50 fans on some aluminum bleachers far down the leftfield line. Other than that, bring your own chair or stand and watch the game.
Another first for me was a bizarre call by the umpires. In the 8th inning with a runner on first and one out Wright State's batter swung as the runner attempted to steal second. The batter came out of the batter's box in front of the catcher trying to make a throw to second. The plate umpire called interference on the batter. The runner on first was called out on the attempted steal of second. The plate umpire called the batter out on the interference call. So, they called it a double play and they waved the Norse off the field. Coach Sogard came out to get an explanation. The umpires got together to discuss the play. At this point they finally figured out that the correct call was the runner was out at second and the batter should continue his at bat. They then called the Norse back out on the field to finish the inning. This rule is pretty easy to understand, and I do not see why the umpires didn't call it right away. Also, there was so much going on, I neglected to get the players names involved in the steal/interference.

Anyway, another Raider win and I am glad I went to the game.

RaiderGang couldn't pull off the sweep losing 9-5 to NKU. The hitting was off a little all weekend. NKU out-hit the Raiders 9-5.

Raiders beat UC in back and forth, come from behind fashion today 7-6. Lots of offense in the game, but I don't believe either team got one over the fence fair today. 4 runs in the 7th was the magical formula.

Xavier absolutely crushed Miami in game 2 last night 16-2. That means we'll face Xavier on Tuesday. A shot at revenge against the Musketeers and a chance at bragging rights as Nuxhall champions. That game is at UC Baseball stadium.
It looks like the UC vs Miami game is at 6pm, so UC must get the right to the primetime game...doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but alright. So our game is probably slated for an early afternoon start, though I can't seem to find that anywhere.
Sure would be nice if we'd get to host some of these games sometime...for years they've been played in Oxford and Cincinnati (I realize Nuxhall is from Hamilton, but if we're good enough to play in it, aren't we good enough to host it?)

Raiders took a really bad result today to Milwaukee who is the worst team in the league standings 6-3 this afternoon. Not a team we should be losing to in all honesty.

The trainwreck that is this team on the road this season continues to disappoint. Raiders allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the 10th to get walked off on by Milwaukee.
Our lead in the league standings is gone, as we continue to struggle against teams categorically worse than us. Games like this are why we are never considered for a better regional seed year in and year out. Raiders really need to salavage a win tomorrow.
To add insult to injury, Jay Luikart allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 12 pitches. Milwaukee had 17 hits in the game as Raider pitching really continues to struggle.

Your doom and gloom attitude about everything all the time really makes guys like Keith from Xenia look like an optimist. This season is not going as well as anyone would have hoped. We lost a few key guys that transferred after last season and have had a lot of injuries this year on a team that isn’t as deep as normal. We are seeing the results of that the same way we saw the loss of 2 all HL players had on our basketball team. This team is not as good or as deep as previous seasons. IT ISN’T A TRAINWRECK EITHER! Stop being such a god damn drama queen when you talk about our programs. It’s beyond insulting to the university, the coaches, the players, and the rest of us fans that support the team. |

Now, it is probably time to worry because Milwaukee just swept our RaiderGang with a 9-2 win. That is their first series win over the Raiders in four years. The Panthers outhit the Raiders 11-6 while Wright State committed an uncharacteristic three errors. The offense is not pounding their opponents into submission either, which is what we usually get from RaiderGang.
RaiderGang is still in the hunt for the HL title and always will be this year. But, this team needs to get back on track and string a bunch of wins together.
Things don't get any, easier. Next up is Xavier at 2 pm on Tuesday at UC. They are probably playing the best baseball of any Div I team in Ohio.
