It's really impossible to NOT like Tanner returning to WSU. If I were the coach, I'd welcome him back, but explain clearly to him that he is NOT the wing that he thinks he is. We do not need him standing at the 3-PT line like he so often did for OSU waiting to bomb the 333 like Benzinger/Wampler...he's simply not that player. He is an under-sized 4 and tough as nails...nothing wrong with that. He's not going to the NBA but can have a long and lucrative career overseas...again...nothing wrong with that.
Noel...Braun...Holden...Carter...at two spots when we go "big"...which isn't all that often. Why not?

The center from Baylor just finished his junior year in which he scored 12 points total for the entire season. I don’t think he is the missing piece to a championship team. I don’t know if he would even see the court for us here besides mop up minutes. I have no idea if Loveday will end up a Raider or not, but if he does, I'll be very very happy with the addition. He didn't have much of a career at Baylor. I don't think he was a great fit for their system and was stuck playing behind better players for what Baylor was trying to do on the court. If we land Loveday, I believe he will be the highest rated recruit Wright State has ever signed. Out of high school, he was ranked as No. 2 player in Ohio, No. 51 nationally and No. 12 among centers in the 2020 class. His high school offer list was a who's who of elite programs. He has great size and very good athletic ability. If he has a good work ethic and is coachable, I think we all know what Nagy is capable of doing with big men. If we can somehow fit him and Tanner into this class, we can be scary good and deep this year.

So many including you are saying Tanner is a done deal but I can't celebrate until it's finalized. If we can get another solid big guy on top of that? Oh man. I live far enough away from WSU where going to a game is an event but if Tanner comes back to WSU I am buying season tickets for the first time since I lived near WSU. With one or two things over the next week 2023-2024 has the potential to be the best ever for WSU in Division 1 and that's not hyperbole. It's hard to not be excited. The next week will be interesting to watch!

He is 7 feet and was recognized by power 5 schools as someone that deserved a scholarship. He would do a ton of damage in our crap league. Enjoying tanner coming back atm, I can't wait to get my season tickets renewed.

Someone else asked but what appears to be the hold up with Holden? I'm probably wrong but seems like some guys enter the portal and the next day are officially with another team. Thought with him not having to sit with us it would speed it along too.

I believe Tanner needs a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible next season, regardless of where he plays. That could be the hold up. Is Wright State going to give him a scholarship (the last one for next year?) to sit out when there is little frontcourt depth? The NCAA has been very generous granting waivers the past few seasons, but that has changed. Here is what the NCAA looks at for second-time transfers:

Thought with him not having to sit with us it would speed it along too. This has already been addressed. TANNER NEEDS A WAIVER FROM THE NCAA BECAUSE THIS IS HIS SECOND TRANSFER AND THE NCAA MOVES AT THEIR OWN PACE. Wright State isn’t going to announce Tanner is a Raider until they know it is official.

Is there any validity to the reports that Holden could only play for OSU or WSU (& WSU with a waiver at that) in '23? Or was that some first-to-report BS that wasn't vetted before proclaimed?
If it is true that a player could simply go back to his previous team and play right away (even with a waiver), that would make for an interesting dilemma for these bigger schools that poach these mid-major studs only to sit them on the bench. Puts the pressure on to keep promises.

Is there any validity to the reports that Holden could only play for OSU or WSU (& WSU with a waiver at that) in '23? Technically yes. In reality, the NCAA passes out waivers like candy on Halloween nowadays so Tanner could probably play anywhere next year but would require that waiver. Puts the pressure on to keep promises. Not true at all. Did you notice Ohio State had absolutely no trouble replacing Tanner whatsoever in the portal after he left. For decades now, the SEC has pushed kids out of their football programs who weren’t cutting it by their standards. Did it hurt their future recruiting? Not whatsoever. Kids will always want to play for the best programs (NIL deals are now part of that equation) and never think any of the negative parts of recruiting are going to happen to them. In the school’s defense, you can argue that Ohio State lived up to their end of the bargain and Tanner did not live up to expectations. I’m sure that is what they told the next portal kid they recruited.

I could have been much more clear in what I was getting at. I'm thinking that coaches like Nagy could use a Holden situation as a way to discourage kids from leaving the program for "greener" pastures. I agree that the bigger programs would lose ZERO sleep or advantage by tossing guys like Holden to the side.

From @jeffborzello on Twitter:
"Deadline day! (Kind of.)
The transfer portal window slams shut later today — but that doesn’t mean it’s the final day of transfers. Names will trickle out as paperwork gets processed.
More importantly, portal window rules don’t apply to graduate transfers, so those won’t stop."
All we've had is speculation for a little bit so I wanted to share the info I found.

He is a transfer from Malone college (whose girlfriend just transferred to WSU) that was mentioned a few weeks ago.
He can really shoot. 52% from the field, 42% from 3 and 74% from the line. Averaged 18.5 PPG & 8 RPG. Admittedly in Division 2. If he can come off the bench and be a solid outside shooter he could help the team.
Unsure what this means for Tanner or other potential recruits.

he could be a walk on. Tanner could be paying his own way. They may both be on scholarship next year. A current player may not be returning. The roster situation is going to work itself out over the next couple of weeks and we will learn more.
