Alex Huibregtse, Keaton Norris, Solomon Callaghan, Brandon Noel, Logan Woods, and Alex Bruskotter were Sargent recruits. Drey Carter was either a Sargent or Trice recruit. I can’t remember for sure. Ayden Davis is a Trice recruit. Jaheem Webber is a Bere recruit. Is there any chance AJ braun reconsider and comes back? Was he a Sargent recruit? Seriously doubt if AJ would reconsider, especially if he went for the money. When you lead the nation (if not, right at the top) in FG percentage, other teams will find you, and some of them will have many, many more NIL $$ than WSU could provide. Maybe not the BIG, Big 12, or the ACC, but he certainly could be very effective in the AAC or MVC, and those leagues still have a much bigger pool of resources than we do.

I don’t think any of the players who already entered the portal will reconsider based on our coaching change.

Congratulations to Coach Sargent!! Wishing him the best and I hope it works out. Given the AD situation, this is a smart decision.
Step 1 -- Work hard to keep as many of the current players and recruits as he can. Looks like that is already well underway based on the tweets.
Step 2 -- Recruit the portal. Especially a point guard, and players ready to play immediately at other positions.
Step 3 -- Hire the assistant coaches. Do not rush this, take however long it takes to get the right guys, and fill in whatever skills we're losing from the current staff. Primarily guys who can recruit, but would it be too much to ask to also get someone who can bring some zone defense experience to have the ability to occasionally mix it up?

What's the O/U on the number of games before someone on the SIU board complains about Nagy's time out philosophy? 1 game or 2?
Nothing against Brown or Sargent but I was hoping we'd be able to look externally. The basketball game experience is stale. Things are "ok" but we go thru the motions and don't seem to have fire or innovation. The department seems happy with going thru the motions and not looking for excellence.
On the other hand, that's just basketball. We've been to some volleyball matches and it's a whole other universe. Different set of fans, 90% don't even know how to clap the fight song. But it's a different energy and there is a lot more spirit on both sides.
Example, at bball when we do tshirt toss the cheerleaders barely get to half court. They hand them to people in the front row or someone they know, it's quick and over before any actual excitement is generated. It's done, but adds very little value.
At volleyball there is an effort made at build up and anticipation before throwing the shirts. They ask the crowd for noise, they tease it. It generates excitement. It's done right.
Maybe that enthusiasm and the recognition that there is a better way to do things will bleed over to the basketball program.

You have step 2 and 3 in the wrong order. He needs to add a staff first. 1. The coaching carousel is already in full effect. You need to find your staff and find them quickly before they are taken off the board by another program. 2 The new staff might bring players with them from their previous schools or a new recruit that they had been tracking at their previous school. 2. We have at least 4 open scholarships for next year. Sargent can’t fill those spots by himself without the help of a coaching staff.

Maybe that enthusiasm and the recognition that there is a better way to do things will bleed over to the basketball program. I also go to volleyball and agree its a completely different atmosphere. But I would argue much of that is due to the smaller gym. If volleyball played in the main arena, it would seem cavernous and the energy would be gone. But in McClin, the place is packed, and everyone sits right on top of the court, so the place is rocking. Plus, everyone has to sit on the same side of the court, which packs in the closeness of the fans. If Nutter only had room for 4000 fans, there would be a natural feeling of much higher energy versus an arena with 2/3 or 3/4 of the seats empty, and the first row being set way back from the court. To put it another way, I've never had the ball come into the crowd anywhere near my seat for basketball -- in volleyball, that will occur 2-3 times per match if you sit on the side, and 8-10 times if you sit on the end (and off a kill that ball is coming at you at 30-40 mph!). You are just naturally far closer to the action and its literally coming right at you. The T-shirt tosses at v-ball only need to cover the equivalent of one section of Nutter (vs what, 4 sections on each side and 2 on the end, so kind of dilutes the # of shirts per section), and they can actually throw it to any row since there are only about 8 rows. At b-ball, they always land at least 8-10 rows below us unless the cheerleader climbs the steps to hand it to a kid, which rarely happens. Lastly, volleyball has far more exciting plays than b-ball that get the crowd really into it. V-ball blocks occur more often than b-ball dunks, and kills occur at 4-5 times the rate of made 3s (usually 40-50 kills in a match). A superb dig or a service ace also gets the crowd into it. Then there is the finality of winning each point, with a stoppage between points to cheer and blare the music, while in basketball the play continues uninterrupted so the energy quickly dies out because you want to watch the game. Can basketball learn a few things? Yeah, probably. But no way they can repeat the same experience.

Do we know specifics about his contract yet? No, but the press conference to officially introduce Clint as our next head coach is later today so I’m sure more will be released to the media fairly soon.

I'm strangely both disappointed and excited about Nagy moving on. No doubt I think he's been our best coach in a long time, but he's also gotten stale and more stubborn in his approach and philosophy. I've found myself with the same kind of disgust - at times - just like I did at the end of the Donlon era. SSDD over and over and repeatedly banging the square peg into the round hole.
Nagy may take some existing players with him, but they darn well better be one of his favys or they aren't going to be happy there. To new recruits thinking about following Nagy: You aren't playing in your first year...you will play man-to-man 90% of the time whether your team-talent can do it or not...and if you aren't a favy (for whatever unknown reason) your ass will sit more than it will run...and you'll be looking over your shoulder anytime you make a mistake.
It'd be great to have a couple of our portal entries reconsider...as unlikely as that may be.
Lastly...so ironic that Nagy acted all butt-hurt with the surprise transfers of Tanner & Basile only to later pull the same stun himself.

He probably hates and is indignant to the idea that players can make as much or more than HC in Division I. But yes, the hypocrisy off whining when someone goes and takes a better "job" (i.e. Basile going to VT) is ironic..

If any of you go to the press conference today, can you let us all know which of the assistant coaches and players attend? It should be a good indicator of who plans on staying.

From WSU Athletics (Below is a link to the Facebook Live stream of the introduction:Clint Sargent has been named the 10th men's basketball head coach in program history at Wright State University. "Clint Sargent is everything we look for in our head coaches," interim director of athletics Joylynn Brown said. "His passion, his character and his excitement to lead our student-athletes – along with his knowledge of our program and what it takes to win in the Horizon League – are all evident. Coach Sargent is an incredible individual and there is no better role model for our student-athletes." Sargent has been on the Wright State coaching staff since 2016, including serving as the associate head coach the last three seasons. He will be formally introduced to the media on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Mills Morgan Center/Setzer Pavilion. The press conference will be live streamed on Facebook Live.

Well, I had to turn it up to 11 to hear anything of substance as the FB audio quality was terrible to say the least. I'm interested in hearing who among the players were there to support Coach and announcement, as well as our incoming recruits and their status. I'm sure a real q&a article is forthcoming and will do more for us than this barely audible press conference. Unfortunate and a missed opportunity for the nearly 100 watching online.
