Glad to hear that at least 2 of the 3 recruits are still coming to WSU. Webber is the one I was most unsure about when Nagy said he was leaving and seems like the one who could go elsewhere or go with Nagy at SIU which is in his home state.
Anyone who hasn't done so should read that DDN article. Reading between the lines with the quotes it sounds like there was more going on than has previously been mentioned.
Based on how the Nagy tenure went overall I should be really disappointed as a WSU fan that he's leaving... but I'm just not. It feels strange and I'm frankly feeling equivalent to a fan of a bigtime college football school whose team makes the playoff but doesn't win it all then I complain about how awful the team/program is.
It really does feel like it was time for a change. I hope Clint is up to the challenge.
I know I'll be there supporting him and the team when fall arrives.

It’s been a great run, but I’m excited for the change. As much as outsiders are talking about Nagy as a great coach (which I think he is), times have changed. It’s probably telling that two Horizon league coaches over the last few years that use the portal have left and taken an SEC job (Gates, Missouri) and a MW job (Calhoun, Utah St) while our “successful” program leader took SIU.

You almost never see a college team needing a new voice as coach because the players have tuned him out. That's usually reserved for the pros where the rosters aren't necessarily turned over ever 4 years. It does seem like the 'my way or the highway' approach just doesn't resonate with the younger generation and our current locker room if you read between the lines on some of those quotes.
Hopefully we can lock down Jaheem and it's a good sign that he's still deciding rather than already asking for his release. Excited to keep our other two recruits in the fold for sure. Thought we were headed for a lean couple years and full rebuild. If the pieces stay in place we'll be able to judge Sargent's coaching abilities sooner rather than later which is also a good thing for our future.

Agreed on both points including Jaheem not opting out yet. I'm still not optimsitic but the getting him to WSU is still very possible.

How do we think a mix up in administration and coaching staff affects attendance next year? I could tell lots of people were frustrated with Nagy…could it possibly improve?

How do we think a mix up in administration and coaching staff affects attendance next year? I could tell lots of people were frustrated with Nagy…could it possibly improve? I don’t think the coaching change by itself will have much of an impact on attendance next year. Casual fans won’t see the coaching change as a real change in the style of play from the last several years since Nagy’s top assistant is taking over. They will just assume he is going to run the same system. The real impact one way or another is going to be determined by how Coach Sargent fills out the roster for next year. If we land an impact transfer or 2, it will probably boost early season attendance slightly. If we have some early season OOC success, I think it will give us a boost in attendance through conference play. At the end of the day, Dayton is a basketball town. Casual fans of the gave will come out and support the team if we are winning games and playing good basketball. They won’t come if we aren’t winning or playing crappy basketball like we did last year.

Lets hope we get those couple impact transfers to help boost us through the OOC schedule. We haven't had much OOC success in awhile, even the first 4 year in 2022 we had a miserable OOC record. Winning those games will help get people in the building excited for the HL games and hopefully give the players some extra confidence.

I noticed this too...not sure how much of this is Nagy just being nice or how much be believes it. I know for sure if he makes more in game adjustments like he says he will I think we will be in good hands. Only time will tell!

The year before he arrived they had Grant, Hughes, Parker, Joe Thomasson, Alstork, and Alan Vest, with Custer committed as well. It's about the same level of OH representation on the roster as before.

Although 6-foot-9 starter AJ Braun had entered the transfer portal before Nagy’s departure — as had redshirt freshman Dayjaun Anderson; and senior Andrew Welage had opted not to return for a fifth season — Sargent believes the Raiders will be able to retain the rest of their returning roster.
He also feels good about the commitments of three incoming freshman. The best news out of that article
