Considering that this happened prior to the hiring of Nagy, as well as Bob Grant's comment, I think it remains to be seen if he actually makes good on his release and leaves or not.

I understand Grant's situation. If the fans are pissed about this situation, it can't sit well with the kids. While a coaching change can be unwelcoming, I think this is a bad decision. The kid can shoot the ball. He's also a local guy, and, as previously mentioned, he's going to have to sit out a year. Seems like a long time to miss playing for when you're already off to a great start. If you aren't seeing the floor, then what do you really have to lose. I can't imagine that he's going to have a lot of options at this point regarding transfer. He's a local guy, he probably wants to stay local. Miami offered him initially, so maybe he'll go play on that side of town. Just doesn't make sense to me. Leave a team you're an established player in, sit out a year, and play for a lower-caliber like Miami? Hopefully he thinks it over and gives Nagy a chance. What fans are upset about WSU replacing Donlon with Nagy? It seems like all Raider fans are on board with this hiring. I think Nagy is a significant upgrade from Donlon. These players need to sit down and really think about things. They might end up having it very good here and will win a lot of games. The grass isn't greener on the other side.

I believe that DaShaun Wood was ready to bolt when Biancardi was fired, but after talking with Brownell he decided to stay. That worked out well for both of them. I hope the same holds true for Benzinger and Nagy.

I think Grant is still considering his options. The good new is that Coach Nagy met with all the players yesterday after the news conference and Grant was at the meeting. Grant also started following Coach Nagy on Twitter today. If Grant was 100% leaving he wouldn't have bothered to attend the meeting and he definitely wouldn't have started following Coach Nagy on Twitter. I get that he is hurt that Donlon was let go, but I think he is a mature enough young man to weigh his options and consider what Nagy has to offer.
If you look at film of SDSU, Nagy's system is cater made for Grant. He would have a great opportunity to be a star in this system and play for a great coach. I hope Coach Nagy can convince Grant to stay. If not, I wish Grant nothing but the best. He has been a class act here and he will be missed.

BigD, I agree but think Grant will end up becoming a better player with his system and coaching.

In addition to Grant, I sure hope Hughes stays too. He has a lot of upside and played with a lot of poise last year.

These are Nagy's two biggest "recruits" of the offseason: Convincing Benzinger and Hughes WSU is the best place for them. Especially playing in Nagy's system. What player would prefer to play in Donlon's system rather than Nagy's? Maybe Aaron Craft? I can't think of anyone else.

Kids chose the program because of the coach. If that coach leaves or is dismissed, there is always turnover. When Brownell took over for Biancardi, James Craft Rob Eldridge, Walt Chancellor, Parysh Munroe, and Everett Spencer all left the program. When Donlon took over for Brownell, Scott Grote left the team. This happens. I am sure Benzinger will not be the only one.

OK, so some bad players left when Brownell took over. But the good ones stayed and the Raiders went to the NCAA tourney his very first year. I don't care if bad players leave. But Nagy needs to sit down Benzinger and Hughes just like Brownell sat down Dashaun Wood to explain why WSU was still the best place for him.
I'm convinced if Benzinger and Hughes stay, they'll end up preferring Nagy's style over Donlon's. They'll love playing for him. But he needs to "re-recruit" them.

The only thing that would concern me with players leaving would be the total number of players on the team. The first year with Brownell, they had 9 players on the team. Donlon had to contribute with the drills because they were so small. However, that was the year they made the tourney. Let's hope those guys stay, but if not, then let's hope that we find better or equal ability replacements.

Anyone else take careful note of the players shown in the Nagy Day-1 video, in the team meeting room?
