I think Roadtrip was hinting that it might help with a certain potential recruit. If Bill is associated with WSU then that should already be an advantage this time around. Can't speak for Billy but, I'd bet he likes the flexibility of being able to watch his kids play without the burden of being expected to travel with one particular team ( not involving one of his kids ). Always happy to see Bill Edwards so, not against it but, I'm sure Coach Donlon doesn't need my help in finding someone to replace Bates. And Roadtrip needs to stop drinking if that is what he was thinking. Vince Edwards is not coming to WSU, even if daddy became one of our coaches. He just started his junior year in high school and he is rated the #66 player in the country on Rivals and has a 1/2 dozen BCS offers. He is going to end up at one of the top schools in the country when all is said and done. If you hire Bill Edwards, you do it because he was a great basketball player and would be a great teacher of the game to our players. He would also be a kick ass recruiter in the Cincinnati area where he is very well regarded.

I'm ok with a weaker OOC schedule this year. We have 7 new faces on our roster and a new uptempo offense we are adding. It's going to take this team some time to gel. I would rather have us play some weaker competition and have a chance to be competitive as we make that transition than have us get our jocks handed to us playing a schedule like last season. When it comes down to it, we aren't playing for an at large bid. Our OOC schedule really means nothing. What happens in HL play matters. If playing a weak schedule helps this team build some confidence and prepares us for HL play, I'm ok with it.

Add Northeastern and Hofstra to the list of schools in the CAA without football. Geographically it makes more sense for Drexel to join the NEC, America East, or MAAC and w/o Butler the Horizon RPI won't be much better (if at all) than the MAAC. That's not true. I teach college math and statistics at WSU and actually use the RPI equation in a few of my classes. Butler had a final RPI of 116 last year and the HL had a conference RPI of 14. The MAAC had a conference RPI of 18, NEC was 24, and America East was 29. If you remove Butler from the RPI equation for the HL, we would have finished in 15th place last year. That's well above the 18th ranked MAAC. If you would have replaced Butler with Oakland, the HL would have finished in the exact same 14th place. If LeCrone is smart he will add Oakland first to solidify the HL. He can then sell our product to schools from lower conferences as a chance for them to move up. Drexel will definitely be looking to jump ship from the CAA if George Mason and VCU leave for the A-10. They may choose one of the conferences you mentioned for easier travel, but if they are looking to upgrade conferences the HL is still going to be well above the those you mentioned.

Yes. But who made those recruiting decisions the past two years? I think we are all hoping that Donlon has learned from those past mistakes.

I don't get the doom and gloom posts. A month ago there was a poll asking what our fans thought needed to happen this off season. 40% of the votes were for Donlon to replace players and/or assistant coaches. That is what he is doing now. We just lost 4 players. I highly doubt any of them are making this decision on their own. I think they were encouraged to leave WSU. Pritchett never saw the court last year. Cuffee rarely saw the court. Hall and Balwigaire were losing minutes in the rotation towards the end of the season. We didn't loose any players we expected to be major contributors next year. Griffin was moving ahead of both Vance and John in the line up and I think Roddy and Yoho would have moved in front of both of them next year too.
Now we just need to see what Donlon does with these 3 open scholarships. We have a top 50 JUCO recruit, a JUCO All-American, and a few other HS players interested in WSU. I see this as a chance to make up for poor recruiting decisions we have made in the last 2 years. Only time will tell.

ok, i am going to ask the hard question here. we brought in what, 6 new players or so this year. and now it has been determined, after only one year, that 3 of them cannot help our program. that is a pretty poor batting average, and not one that will build a quality program. I agree that going 3 for 6 is pretty poor. I think Donlon reached on Cuffee and Balwigaire signing them in the late period last year. I think he missed out on the guards he really wanted and rolled the dice on them (along with Reggie) in the late signing period. The only thing that I find comforting is that this seems like it is Donlon's decision to not renew these player's scholarships and to find 2 players that better suit our system. I think he realized they weren't cutting it as the season wore on and he kept recruiting for next year. We know of several players we are recruiting. I'm sure there are several more we don't know about. I am hoping that Donlon makes 2 very smart recruiting decisions soon. I think there is enough potential on this roster to be pretty good next year if we add the right players. Based on who we are recruiting that we know about it seems that we are going after a guard that can score and an inside player. If we land 2 players that can be consistent contributors next year, we could see a quick turn around.

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier, but Alex Pritchett is also on the list. Thanks I missed that.
