Tom House is leaving Florida State. He is from Centerville high school and was originally recruited to Wright State by Clint Sargent.

Is Bere still a coach at wright state? As of now, yes. He is still listing Wright State on his social media and Wright State hasn’t updated the athletic website yet to show who is staying vs who is leaving.

2022 Alter grad Jacob Conner has hit the portal out of Marshall. 5.6 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 2.0 APG with 37/32/72 splits for his career. What are everyone's thoughts on possibly pursuing him? None of the staff that recruited him while he was in high school are here anymore. Chambliss was his primary recruiter. Good news is Sargent has been recruiting his younger brother for the past year so the family is already familiar with Clint.

How do we think a mix up in administration and coaching staff affects attendance next year? I could tell lots of people were frustrated with Nagy…could it possibly improve? I don’t think the coaching change by itself will have much of an impact on attendance next year. Casual fans won’t see the coaching change as a real change in the style of play from the last several years since Nagy’s top assistant is taking over. They will just assume he is going to run the same system. The real impact one way or another is going to be determined by how Coach Sargent fills out the roster for next year. If we land an impact transfer or 2, it will probably boost early season attendance slightly. If we have some early season OOC success, I think it will give us a boost in attendance through conference play. At the end of the day, Dayton is a basketball town. Casual fans of the gave will come out and support the team if we are winning games and playing good basketball. They won’t come if we aren’t winning or playing crappy basketball like we did last year.

It looks like there is a new position open in the Athletic Department for a “Director of Major Gifts.” This person could certainly help Brown with initial fundraising and allowing her to put more focus into the administrative side of her new position. That isn’t a new job listing. It was posted 6 months ago. And quite frankly, she shouldn’t need to be focused on the administrative side of her position. We sponsor the absolute minimum number of sports to be a D1 university and most of those sports were chosen because they are the most inexpensive to sponsor because they get a minimal number of scholarships and require a minimal number of coaches and support staff. When it comes to the administrative side to this job, it is one of the easiest jobs in the entire country. Her main focus, if she is able to fill the director of major gifts position or not, needs to be on fundraising. It’s the key to any future growth to the athletic department.

As I read between the lines I heard him say he didn't get the support here at WSU or he was worried about the support he would get moving forward. I would say he was referring to your second guess and I had referred to that in many game threads this year when discussing Nagy’s future. College athletics is a business like it or not. All employees have a boss and board of directors to answer to. Nagy never really believed that. Bob Grant was his immediate boss and Bob tried his best to provide Nagy with everything he wanted and needed to succeed here. Bob Grant also had a boss (our president) and a board of directors (the donors). If the donors were happy with the direction of the program then the money kept flowing. It provided NIL money to bring Amari Davis to WSU. It provided NIL money to keep Trey and bring back Tanner. It provided money to take his teams to Italy twice since he has been here. Those donors want to see some return on their investment. When you spend money to bring a former all HL player to your team, they don’t expect to see him riding the pine by the end of the year and transfer out to a D2 team. When they pay to keep two 2000 point scorers happy, they expect much much more than the shitty season we just sat through. I said it many times this year. The donors were getting feed up with Nagy’s insistence on using a short bench and having an aversion to the transfer portal. If he would have been willing to adapt, he would still be here in the good graces of everyone. As it stands, he is now Southern Illinois problem. A large portion of their fan base is already unhappy with him being hired. I think those fans are going to lose their shit when they realize Nagy hates the portal, hates recruiting JUCOs, and wants to redshirt all freshmen. I don’t think their patience is going to be very good and I doubt he gets to finish out that new 6 year contract he just signed. I hope I’m wrong and he finally adapts to the new college athletic landscape. I really do like the man and the way he represented our university. If you watched Clint’s press conference today, he pointed out that he would be utilizing the portal and embracing NIL. I have absolutely no doubt that statement was made specifically for our top donors who wanted change.

Exactly how does this initiative work? I really don't get it. I understand how an established player who has been with a program several years could parlay his/her name recognition into getting advertising deals from local merchants/companies to promote that business. That's great. I have no problem with it. But now, from what I understand, is that players from HS or those that are entering the transfer portal are demanding up front payments from these Initiatives before they commit to play for that program. This is nothing more free agency in College Athletics. So if that's the reality, then whats to prevent our Billionaire Alum to open up his check book and just allow our new Coach & staff to go out and get the best players money can buy? WSU could suddenly tranform itself from a lowly mid-major into bigtime player overnight. There really isn’t any regulation of NIL in college athletics currently. The NCAA opened up that Pandora’s box without a plan to regulate it. Under your last scenario, the only thing keeping that from happening is the fact that we don’t have any billionaire donors filling our NIL coffers.

Do we know specifics about his contract yet? No, but the press conference to officially introduce Clint as our next head coach is later today so I’m sure more will be released to the media fairly soon.

Congratulations to Coach Sargent!! Wishing him the best and I hope it works out. Given the AD situation, this is a smart decision. Step 1 -- Work hard to keep as many of the current players and recruits as he can. Looks like that is already well underway based on the tweets. Step 2 -- Recruit the portal. Especially a point guard, and players ready to play immediately at other positions. Step 3 -- Hire the assistant coaches. Do not rush this, take however long it takes to get the right guys, and fill in whatever skills we're losing from the current staff. Primarily guys who can recruit, but would it be too much to ask to also get someone who can bring some zone defense experience to have the ability to occasionally mix it up? You have step 2 and 3 in the wrong order. He needs to add a staff first. 1. The coaching carousel is already in full effect. You need to find your staff and find them quickly before they are taken off the board by another program. 2 The new staff might bring players with them from their previous schools or a new recruit that they had been tracking at their previous school. 2. We have at least 4 open scholarships for next year. Sargent can’t fill those spots by himself without the help of a coaching staff.

I don’t think any of the players who already entered the portal will reconsider based on our coaching change.
