I was surprised that we could get him away from Colorado St so soon, especially since they extended their coach another 5 years with options for more money ($1.7 mil now to $2 mil in option year 7), which I assume more money also went down to the assistants too. I also thought Nagy might also try to get Gentry on his bench, after losing another coach today. Cole Gentry was a graduate assistant at his last 2 stops. You basically get to go to graduate school for free and get a small stipend in those roles. CSU’s coach probably has a bigger budget in his contract for suits than what they give graduate assistants. In regards to Cole joining our staff, I’m withholding full judgment pending on how Sargent completes his staff. The press release says he has 1 spot left to fill. I think he needed to add a veteran coach that will bring new ideas to the table. A guy that coaches zone with Ohio recruiting ties would have been a huge bonus. I still hope that occurs with that final ire. I would have liked Cole to be added in Tae Gibbs role. It would have been the next step up the coaching ladder, not a full blown assistant. Cole has absolutely no recruiting experience and more importantly no recruiting connections. Half the battle of recruiting is getting past the gate keepers, which are the high school and AAU coaches. If those guys like you, you have an in with their players. Cole currently brings nothing to the table from that regards. I think Cole will eventually be a good recruiter but it is going to take some time. When it comes to the staff in it’s entirety, we have very little experience. Sargent is a first time head coach. He only had 8 years experience as an assistant coach before that and it has all been while he was here at WSU. Trice only has 3 years of college coaching experience and all of that has been here. Bere is our most experienced assistant coach with 18 years experience as an assistant at WSU, Jacksonville, and Fort Wayne. Im happy for Cole and the rest of the staff. I just hope we make a really good hire with that last spot.

If I’m not mistaken, Kaden can take a free transfer here, due to coaching change, then still use a no-sit transfer later if he decides. This seems like a smart move for him. Not really and it doesn't matter anyways. Not really in the fact that he left before the coaching change, so if that rule was still in existence, he wouldn't qualify for that exemption. It doesn't matter anyways because that rule got shot down by the courts. Kids can transfer every year now without having to sit out.

Silly question. When the Raiders play at NKU, do they drive back and forth for each game, or do they stay in hotels? Drive back and forth

I hope he can adapt his system to use the strengths of his players. I would like to see more players in the game and a fast pace. I don’t expect him to say “It is their team” but we are all the team. I don’t think your first sentence makes any sense with your second sentence. We have just finished up the 2 most disappointing seasons in the Nagy era watching this team trying to play fast pace. The roster the last 2 years wasn’t built for it and the current roster is even more ill suited for it. Fast paced teams are athletic guard oriented teams. That is not what I think of when I look at our roster. Our most successful seasons in the Nagy era was when we played at a slower pace, played great defense and controlled the boards. Our offense was run through post touches. If you watched the Ayden Davis interview, you will see that is what they sold him on with coming to Wright State. We want to get back to running the offense through post touches. Those are the types of recruits we signed in the fall. Those are the types of players we have reached out to in the portal so far. I think Wright State is going back to always having 2 bigs on the court. I think we will always have a SF on the court with some size. They will list that player as a guard, but I think they want someone that can help rebounding. Besides that, we will have a tradition SG and PG. 2 post players: Brandon Noel, Ayden Davis, Jaheem Webber SF (3rd guard): Drey Carter, Alex Bruskotter SG: Alex Huibregtse, Logan Woods PG: Keaton Norris, Solomon Callaghan Going under the assumption that no one else leaves and the 3 recruits stick with their commitment, I think we will try to use the 4 open scholarships to add another experienced post player, SF, SG, and PG.

I supported Nagy until the end. I was surprised when he left. But, I am glad that Sargent has taken over the team. His youth and desire should outweigh his lack of head coaching experience. If we had kept Nagy, I think WSU would have stayed in a comfortable zone of good, but not great. With new blood, there is a chance for new energy to propel this program to new heights never achieved in the past. Clint’s biggest chance to succeed is going to come down to 3 factors: 1. How much is he willing to adapt his system. The game is always changing. Your roster is always changing. You have to figure out how to utilize what you have to get the most out of them. Nagy was not willing to change and would prefer to lose games doing it his way than to compromise in his mind. 2. Putting together his staff. Early indications are that the staff is staying together and he has one open spot. He needs to bring in a rock star of a recruiter with that open spot. If he can bring in a guy with Ohio ties even better. You need great players if you want to have a great team. If everyone else really is staying, he needs to get the most out of them. Give them clear expectations for what he wants from them. If they don’t live up to those expectations, he needs to replace them after this next season. This may be Clint’s only chance to be a head coach if he doesn’t succeed. He can’t afford to be the nice guy all the time. If he doesn’t feel he is getting the most out of his staff, he needs to replace the pieces that aren’t cutting it. 3. Clint needs to embrace being the face of Wright State athletics. Now, more than ever, a good basketball coach needs to be a promoter of his program. You have to get fans excited about the program. We needs butts in the seats to increase revenue. We need donors engaged so the want to give to the athletic department and our NIL fund. You can be a great Xs and Os coach and a great recruiter. It all means nothing if you can’t get donors lined up to help you keep those players. I really think Clint’s youth and passion for the game is going to help us here more than anywhere. Nagy hated the idea of instant transfers, the portal, and NIL and it really hurt our efforts with boosters in that regard. I expect to see a complete 180 from Clint in the way he approaches NIL.

Kinda like this guy. Where is he from? Any other offers? He’s from Geneva, Alabama. He has offers from Stetson, Gardner-Webb, several D2 and JUCOs.

Not sure how this works but I would love to help NIL anyway I can! I feel like there is so much untapped potential with local businesses like if the Wondering Griffin did a light beer that they sold there and at games that a percentage went to their NIL fund. I always feel like Wright State is always behind on merchandise like jerseys if they did NIL jerseys I think those would be a big hit! Just don't know how to make all that happen! HAHA! NIL is minimally regulated but alcohol is one of the companies athletes are not allowed to accept money from.
