I hate this time of year when the season is over. We get to spend the next month hoping to not see Coach Nagy's name mentioned for other jobs and hoping to not see any of our players show up in the transfer portal. I hope the only Raider news we hear about in the next month is Wright State adding a final recruit to complete our roster for next year.

I say that first because I will be shocked if the top players all come back next year. I have no inside knowledge but the nature of college athletics makes keeping an entire team together very difficult. I echo your sentiments that if this entire roster (and coach!) stay together for another year then 2023 could be a very special year for WSU.

I think as long as Coach Nagy is coming back next year, we will keep our core guys together.

I think all the top 4 guys are locks to come back. Nagy was able to keep Love, he was able to keep Tanner, Calvin, Grant, and Tim over the years too. Why risk going somewhere else where you might not be playing or have a successful team. Hall and Potter played for an over achieving team, Smith landed in a good spot but the track record for other HL players going to Power 5 school has been very bad. Alstork is one of the most talented players wsu has had and he hardly played on an okay Illinois team.
Nagy will probably be rumored to a number of teams but why leave to go to a low team in another power 5 conference? That track record has also not been great. I still don't know why Clemson hasn't fired Brownell. Nagy is older, makes a lot of money in a low cost of living area. While the success of this team towards the end of the year has been nothing short of incredible, we only won the HL twice during his career here. Yes, he had success at SDSU but the HL is sliding to be one of the worst conferences. I'd want someone that had more success if I was a power 5 school. When we make it next year and advance to the round of 32 he will probably make a jump.

Is he a better coach than Nagy? I don't think so but this shows that power schools will still pluck from the Horizon. Nagy is obviously the key and if the top 4 come back then the ceiling for this team would be the highest in WSU's division 1 history.

I think this was a foregone conclusion, but this just makes it official:

Not surprising. I think we will hear the same news about Riley Voss if he has any eligibility left and wants to try to play next year. I don't think we would have honored either guy on senior night if we planned on having them back next year.

No doubt this hurts...double edge sword playing in tourney...you show out from a mid-major...big boys come calling...assume Wisconsin coming for him--Chambliss connection (former WSU assistant there)...we have to all hold our breath that Tanner does not bolt either.... Exactly my thoughts. Have to wonder if Braun is really ready for 30+ minutes a game...I have no experience coaching basketball, but I think for the betterment of the program, we have to make a move to counter his departure and hope it goes better than the last big guy we brought in off the portal.

Well crap. Hopefully none of the other core four are next. I was much more confident in the others staying than Basile. Hopefully he is the only one to enter the portal, but when one jumps, others might be more likely to jump as well.
Braun was really good in his limited minutes this year. Is Brandon Noel ready to step up? Drey Carter seems impressive and could possibly step in at the 4.

Coach talked many times about being excited about what Trey will do for us next year and Tanner talked about how this year was just the beginning and what we could do next year. I don't recall any comments from or about Basile and his plans for next year.
All that to say, I think it would be a surprise to our coaches if Trey or Tanner hit the portal. And who knows, maybe Coach Nagy lays out a reason why it would benefit Grant to play his last year here and he doesn't end up leaving. Maybe not likely but possible. It's certainly a big loss if he leaves.

The thing about Grant that gets me is that if you watch his play last year to this year, it's easy to see this coming. He's worked really hard on his mid-range and three point jump shot all season and it was a huge asset to this team when he was hitting those shots. One of the big critiques of big men going to the NBA for years is that all they want to do is live under the basket, and those days of the NBA are largely gone. Grant was probably told in the offseason that his game needed to get further away from the basket, and we saw that both for better and for worse. He's extremely light on his feet and can score from anywhere on the court. If I'm Grant, and I want to play professional ball, I need to showcase my range and diversity at a place that will get me more TV games and playing in front of more scouts. Can't fault the guy one bit. I'm happy for him, I hope the step he makes helps him grow and reach his goals. He was a transformational player for us and did some great things for us on the court. I personally wish him all the best.

Absolutely wish him the best. Taking nothing away from his skills; the defenses and the sizes of the defenders that he would face in the Big Ten is a world away from the Horizon League. It will be a challenge to him but I wish him well and thank him for what he's done for us.

Thanks for everything Grant. Sad but not surprised that he transferred.
My son is going to be sad when he finds out that his favorite player isn't a Raider anymore.
Hopefully this is the end of the transfers for this offseason but more wouldn't be surprising.
