You're also running into a massive issue in your AD search if you hire a permanent head coach first. Whatever pool of candidates you have gets smaller when the AD can't pick their own head coach. And the candidates who drop off will be the best candidates. Everyone wants to hire their own guy. Next season isn't lost but it's better to sacrifice one season by giving Sargent time to "prove it." You've gotta get the AD hire done right first. I’m 100% sure our pool of 1 AD candidates already knows Clint pretty well. I expect to hear Brown is given the full time job sooner rather than later.

I like Clint, but I'm not sure if he would be the best option. My biggest concern is his experience is not well rounded, its all under a single coach (as a player and an assistant). I would rather have someone either with some experience as a head coach (D2 okay), or who has been an assistant under multiple coaches who played multiple styles.
The best thing about Clint (over Cooley, or a current D2 or a D1 HC from a lesser conference [hard to believe those exist]) would be keeping the current players and recruits in place. But that is short term thinking, plus it would be reasonable to think if you bring in a current HC, he would also bring a few players with him.

Nagy must like the small town atmosphere, Brooking SD and Carbondale, Ill are tiny towns that are not even close to a large city.

If bball is like football, the transfer portal has opened up for 30 days. It will be interesting to see if we hemorrhage players or just lose a trickle.

Does anyone have any insight on Bere? Staying or going with Nagy?

I’m pretty sure they have to post the openings and not just hire for the positions.

I’m pretty sure they have to post the openings and not just hire for the positions. I’m pretty sure we didn’t post the opening when we promoted Grant to AD or Donlon to head basketball coach or any of our assistant baseball coaches to the next head coach over the years. I think you only have to post a job if you are looking at external candidates.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Nagy's name wasn't in the rumor mill for a new job until Bob Grant announced his retirement. Not only that, but the rumor mill on the SIU message board indicated that several other of their targets turned down the job prior to Nagy's hire. Is this a Red flag for WSU'S Athletics moving foward?

SIU sports information guy is just making things up in that write-up stating: “In his first season at Wright State in 2017, he led the program to its first 20-win season since 2008. Building on that success in his second season, Nagy took the Raiders to their first NCAA Tournament in a decade and earned his first Horizon League Coach of the Year Honor.” Donlon had 20 wins in 3 out of his 4 years just prior to Coach Nagy's arrival. With 22 wins the year before Nagy joined in 2015-16, and 22 wins 2 years prior (2013-14), and Brownell had a 20 win year in that time span too.

Is this a Red flag for WSU'S Athletics moving foward? Grant leaving + two 2,000 point scorers + several transfers after a couple disappointing seasons... I view it as the captain abandoning a ship taking on water and now his first mate will have to try to fix things. Hopefully Clint Sargent is capable.

And I think 23 wins in 2012-2013. Ironically, Nagys first win at WSU was against SIU....
