Oakland's non-conference schedule is outstanding, if they can survive it. North Carolina, UCLA, Cal, Gonzaga, Indiana, and Michigan State. Hope they can win a few of those for the sake of the HL's RPI.

What is more surprising to me is that we don't see any of the traditional road game combos like we are used to seeing. (GB-MIL) (CSU-YSU) I guess UIC and Valpo would be another one that you would think makes sense...Wonder if that is just because we are trying to scrap together a schedule later than normal (maybe) or if the league is just going to abandon that all together. Don't see much logic in that...Additional expenses, time away from campus, etc. Anybody have any insight?

It's because of the odd number of HL teams and the lateness of putting together the schedule. Once we add a tenth team we will get back to the normal 2 team travel partners.

I think some of you need to be in charge of scheduling. How many big time schools are just hoping WSU will be calling to be on their schedule. If we have a good year again then some of them maybe be willing to have WSU on their schedule. At the present we would drag their SOS down. They won't sacrifice to help our SOS. I want to see us play against better teams in non conference schedule but we have to earn that position. Oakland has done enough to get some teams to play them. I would be happy to travel some to accomplish that goal. Are you? We need fans willing to travel also to schedule some of the big school programs. Many conferences have limit on number of season tickets they can sell so visiting teams fans can attend. They don't want to try to sell 1000+ tickets to sell out. We are on the way to a respected program with a respected history and then can schedule big time schools.

Oakland is going to drag down someone's RPI more than we would.

They'll play if you want to do guarantee games on the road. Thank you, Sixth Man, for being someone who understands RPI. Oakland's schedule will help their RPI, win or lose, but if they lose, it will hurt the RPI of all other Horizon teams. The biggest component of RPI is opponent's W-L record. If Oakland loses those tough games on the road, the rest of the league will take an RPI hit.

I may be overlooking something, but so far the schedule for this season looks very weak IMO. Of course I don't consider myself an expert on such matters, so maybe some of the few teams we have learned about so far have more strength than I think they have. Right now my impression is that our toughest opponents will be in the HL and Miami and BG from the MAC. I keep hoping to see some teams from the conferences ranked higher than the HL, but I don't recall seeing any. If you know of any, please refresh my lack of memory.

Right, I had forgotten Evansville, but so far I think the schedule looks weak if the toughest non-con games are Evansville and the two MAC teams. Even DePaul finished around the bottom of their league last season, but I suspect they'll give us a very good test on their court...or wherever we'll play them in the Chicago area. I think it is the former Rosemont. But I have my fingers crossed to see if we can land some big name schools from the top 6 or 7 conferences. Time is running out if we haven't done so to date.

I may be overlooking something, but so far the schedule for this season looks very weak IMO. We scheduled a bunch of cupcakes to home/home contracts last year and we are stuck with the return games this year. I doubt we are going to be happy with the finished schedule when it comes out.
