A new name that is being put out there is Scott Nagy from South Dakota St. He is not a name that we know, but I was impressed with his team in the tournament game against Maryland. I don't think that it would be easy to recruit to SDSU, but he seemed to have an athletic team, nearly overcoming an 18 point deficit to ultimately lose by 5 in that game. Now this would be a home run hire, especially when compared to someone like Kelsey. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Nagy Look at his run the last 6 years: 140-62, three NCAA berths and an NIT berth. Grant even interviewing Kelsey is complete bullshit. I really hope the big-time donors that wanted DOnlon out (however you want to define "big-time") are happy about this.

An interesting name has surfaced at Wright State…from multiple sources, I’ve heard South Dakota State’s Scott Nagy mentioned here. Nagy has been at SDSU for the past 21 seasons where he has won 410 games, including 26 wins the Summit League Championship this past season. One of the reasons Wright State AD Bob Grant said Billy Donlon was dismissed was due to his lack of NCAA tournament appearances – Nagy doesn’t have that problem, he’s been to three in the past five seasons. I’ll keep an eye on this one. hoopdirt.com/daily-dirt-32916/ Head coaching record South Dakota State (The Summit League) (2007–present) 2007–08 South Dakota State 8–21 3–15 10th 2008–09 South Dakota State 13–20 7–11 7th 2009–10 South Dakota State 14–16 10–8 4th 2010–11 South Dakota State 19–12 10–8 5th 2011–12 South Dakota State 27–8 15–3 2nd NCAA Round of 64 2012–13 South Dakota State 25–10 13–3 T–1st NCAA Round of 64 2013–14 South Dakota State 19–13 10–4 2nd CBI First Round 2014–15 South Dakota State 24–11 12–4 T–1st NIT Second Round 2015–16 South Dakota State 26–8 12–4 T–1st NCAA Round of 64 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_NagyAgreed---in addition to the above, he was highly successful in leading SDSU during the D-II era. Of all the names thrown around on this board and other forums, the only name that I could legitimately see WSU offering and hiring that a) fits the criteria laid out by Grant b) is probably affordable, c) may actually stay around a while, and d) would excite most fans is Nagy. His track is everything Grant publicly says he wants. Hunter sounds great, but he hasn't come close to the level of sustained success over a similar period of time as Nagy.

I agree. Nagy is the only name I've seen at this point that excites me. Get it done Grant!

Nagy was one I mentioned in a post on 3/21. I think he would be a good choice - even more so if he would bring a couple players with him. He lost a few good seniors but their leading scorer and rebounder was a 6-9 RS Frosh Mike Daum. Here is what I had posted: Scott Nagy - South Dakota State His process of recruiting the “right fit” to establish his program on and off the court is what makes him successful. Opposing coaches never look forward to seeing Nagy’s team on the schedule, as they know they are in for a war. Scott Nagy is gaining well deserved respect from the basketball community and is primed for a deep tournament run in the near future. FWIW, they are talking about it over on the SDSU message board. Their fans are saying some things that were familiar sounding to UNC-Wilmington fans said regarding Brownell taking a Wright State position. Some folks do not know the quality of facilities and the untapped potential of WSU, it seems. Here's a link: sdsufans.com/board/showthread.php?14515-Rumor-Nagy-to-Wright-State

Back up the truck for this guy. I'll donate. Let's set up a GoFundMe for WSU's new coach. I'm serious. (Kinda.)

A media report had Kelsey interviewing with Wright State on Tuesday. A source close to the situation told The Herald that Kelsey spoke briefly with Wright State over a week ago, but that nothing had progressed beyond that.www.heraldonline.com/sports/college/big-south/winthrop-university/article68855827.htmlFrom What I have been told, Kelsey contacted us last week and that is as far as things have gone. Grant did not initiate the contact and did not schedule a formal interview with him. Sounds like Kelsey is trying to act like he is getting interest from Wright State to get James Madison to speed up their hiring process.

We paid Donlon more than he makes at SDSU and we paid Brownell almost 2x his current salary. I don't think salary will be an issue if we go after him.

According to this article "Eagles athletics director Tom Hickman said on Tuesday afternoon that Wright State had also contacted him to speak with Kelsey." So while it may true that WSU has not had a formal interview, should that be caveated as "yet" since Grant asked for permission to speak with him?

Watching this game and highlights of others looks just like WSU basketball under Billy Donlon. Not a bad thing to me, but obviously I differ from others. Looking at SDSU's site a few things I notice that are quite different is that they score and rebound much better than we have done under Donlon. Last season we averaged 68.5 points and 31.3 rebounds. SDSU averaged 76.2 points and 37.6 rebounds. Also 30% of their rebounds were offensive rebounds. Only 21% of our rebounds were offensive rebounds. They also went out on the road and beat teams that they shouldn't have. They beat TCU on the road and Minnesota on the road this year. Donlon never beat a BCS school in his tenure. He seldom played a respectable game vs a BCS school.

The latest from HoopDirt: Yesterday I mentioned that South Dakota State head coach Scott Nagy’s name has surfaced at Wright State. I have now also heard from multiple sources that Marty Simmons (head coach Evansville), Joe Dooley (head coach Florida Gulf Coast), and Cliff Warren (assistant coach Maryland – former head coach Jacksonville) should be added to the list. It sounds like AD Bob Grant has a list of 6-7 coaches who have either interviewed or will interview shortly. More on this one as I hear it.

a couple of thoughts. first, jp, i was referring to Gregory's record at ud. I am always interested in what a coach does at another mid major. it was pretty impressive. truth is, if bd had compiled a record even close to Gregory's we would have offered him a 10 year extension instead of firing him. I do remember his "line changes" for substitutions and i know some fans were turned off by it, but i would point to his record and call him a success.
Second, i saw joe Dooley mentioned. he replaced thecoach's who took fgcu to the sweet 16 a few years ago, the one who went to USC. they love him down here and he has a good team coming back next year. he is also in a recruiting valhalla, beaches, babes and bikinis. i am doubtful he would accept an offer, although money talks and i am not sure what he makes at fgcu.
lastly, i have a feeling bg is under a lot of pressure to get this right. when he hired bd it was a no brained. no search, no other interviews, no hard choices to make. this time he does have to make a hard choice. i hope he gets it right.
