Coach Donlon was on WONE this afternoon. At least two things I remember worth mentioning...
Coach made a good point that this will be the first time we've played CSU with both Troy and Cooper in the lineup and available. And also that Troy was finally shooting like the pre-injury Troy in practice today for the first time and he hopes that will carry over into the game.

The shot N'gai blocked with about a minute to go in the game reminded me of D. Wood's block near the end of the 2007 HL Championship game. That was a big stop.
Donlon has the flu and a temperature of 101 according to the post game show that I caught driving home. That might explain what helped him keep his cool with the officiating.

Milwaukee 94 Youngstown State 87 OT Not sure how that YSU tip in at the end of regulation didn't go in. I'm sure it was disappointing to the 150 fans that showed up for Senior Day.

With Senior Night coming up and Vaughn finishing up a decorated career at Wright State I got to thinking about players getting their number retired. I know I read somewhere that we retired Bill Edwards number but that was before my time following the program and we don't list it on his banner in the Nutter Center. What number did BE wear with Wright State?
And second, should we consider honoring any other players? DaShaun? Vaughn? Vitaly? Or as a very young University should we leave that honor to just BE for now?
Thought it would be interesting to hear some other people's opinions...

There are teams in those tournaments with RPIs in the 200 range - not exactly a prestigious tournament to be associated with.

^ that's awesome. People can say they didn't see the giant signs up on campus about the games but you can't say you didn't see the man walking around with a megaphone.

Why does this league stink? [+] EnlargeAntonio Gates oug Pensinger/Getty Images Gone are the days of Antonio Gates and Kent State making it to the Elite Eight. The MAC (33) currently is rated the No. 18 league in the land by Jeff Sagarin's computer (and 21st in the RPI). That's a fairly precipitous fall from even the modest position the Midwestern collection of colleges once held. From 2000 to '05, the MAC average was No. 11 in Sagarin's ratings. From 2006 to the present, that rank is No. 16. And this season, it's all the way down to 18 -- just behind the Summit League and just ahead of the Big West (not to be confused in the slightest with the Big East). Sagarin does not rank a single MAC school in his top 100 -- there simply isn't a single entity in the 12-team league to get overly excited about. As recently as 2007-08, the MAC had five in the Sagarin top 100. In 2002, Kent State (34) reached the Elite Eight with Antonio Gates playing power forward. In 1999, Miami (Ohio) (35) made the Sweet 16 behind Wally Szczerbiak. In 1990, Ball State (36) advanced to the Sweet 16, where the Cardinals nearly upset eventual national champion UNLV. The next season, Eastern Michigan (37) made it to that round. So this is a league with some history. But it now has become a mystery. Maybe the general population decline in the industrial centers of the upper Midwest has had an impact on recruiting. Maybe schools have felt the budgetary crunch of playing football at the highest classification and it has affected the basketball bottom line. Maybe there are too many aging facilities, mismanaged athletic departments and uninspiring coaches. Whatever the root cause, MAC basketball is floundering. And there's no reason to believe that will change anytime soon. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=6146319

I can't link the article from my phone but according to Kyle's blog, Troy sounds like a sure thing to play in this game.

Actually just read Milwaukee and CSU both control their own destiny - either one wins out they take the #1 seed. Thursday's game between the two of them is HUGE.

He was pressed on the UD thing quite a bit - he was being diplomatic but ended up saying that he thinks the game should be played but he wouldn't do a 2 for 1 with UD. He said there have been no conversations with Dayton about scheduling the game since he's become AD.
He said he spoke with Coach Donlon and with officials from both the "other" tournaments already and the team has already turned down offers to play in either tournament - he's still hoping for an NCAA berth. Team is too banged up right now to justify the economic hit of paying to play. He said he pretty much deferred to Coach D on that decision because no one knows the team better than him.
Said he is certainly not satisfied with attendance figures but made a point to other callers about where WSU stands in terms of attendance compared to all the Division 1 schools in Ohio.
Said he doesn't foresee having 2 Division II schools on the schedule again - they were just in a crunch to fill out the schedule this year. He didn't say it in so many words but I would expect one D2 game on the schedule next year based on his comments. Made a point about a crappy D1 school like Maryland Eastern Shore isn't going to draw any more fans than a D2 school but we have to pay them to come and they hurt our RPI. Said we could have had a 1 and 1 with Rhode Island this year - sounds like we chose Charlotte instead.
That's about all I remember.

I really wonder if anyone else this season has face guarded Jenkins like Duggins did. Hofstra looked like they had no clue how to get him the ball. Excellent game planning from Coach Donlon and company.

Vaughn Duggins > Charles Jenkins. This. Amazing that Jenkins is already getting the NBA star treatment in college. Without the foul calls he doesn't make it to double figures today. Nice crowd for 11 am game this year - nice job Athletic Dept.
