We were a fake good team for the most part. There’s a reason our NET was above 100 the entire year, even for a team with that many wins. Let’s play a solid schedule next year and see what happens come league play (yes I know scheduling is hard, I’m not saying it’s in our total control) I get that a lot of you are frustrated we lost tonight. I am too, but I am getting really sick and tired of reading ignorant comments like this tonight. We won our conference and set a program record for most conference wins and least amount of conference losses this year. We do need to come up with a better OOC schedule in the future but our conference is what it is. We cannot control it. We still dominated the HL this year. Saying this is a fake good team is BS.

Agree with you Big D. Our lack of toughness inside the paint showed up. We got killed inside on both sides and they smothered Loudon all night. I hope we can get Grant and Lou at the same time on the floor and work it inside instead of chuck up 3s next year. We have to work on controlling the paint on both sides. I hope this game gets them fired up especially the seniors to show we can play in the NIT. I could see it on Cole’s face and when he missed those free throws that he was disappointed on the outcome.

In fairness, this league is terrible so dominating it is faint praise.

Number 1 seeds lose in conference tournaments all the time. At least they are still in the post season. Instead of getting blown out in the first game of the NCAA at leat they have a chance in the NIT

If it’s any consolation tonight, UIC has now gone 12-4 in their last 16 games including taking 2 of 3 from the Raiders.

And the end result of dominating the HL is meaningless. You either need to play a better schedule to better insure a night like tonight doesn't happen or you don't. Can't have it both ways. Or at least you can't and then be disappointed by the outcome.

Just think if Donlon won two of those he'd either still be here, or most likely gotten a job at an SEC, ACC, Big10 school. Interesting how one game a year can make these Coaches careers a lot different. I'm not saying better, but different. The Raiders just can't get over the hump with taking the program to the next level, but still a really good program overall. Wisdom. Well said, especially on the fickle nature of this time of year and what it does to the careers of many a coach.

Saying this is a fake good team is BS. 100% agree. Bad night. Had nothing to do with our non-conference schedule from 3 months ago. Those complaints are valid but not why we lost tonight. That’s ridiculous. Disappointing loss. UIC is tough defensively, we all would hope to beat them and we should. It didn’t happen. It’s frustrating, it doesn’t change the success in conference this season and outside of. It was a good year, they were a very good team, plenty of holes but well coached, played tough, good leadership and at least one more game to try to show some pride against a very good #1 or #2 seed in the NIT. Rest up Raider fans, that was hard to swallow. It’ll burn for awhile, it should. Keep the high expectations, the program is still in good hands and a prime candidate to jump to the Mo Valley Conf.

Frustrating and disheartening loss. My biggest gripe is that we didn't seem to have any answers or play differently against the teams we struggled with. We didn't match up well against UIC and their guards this year and YSU easily could have best us at home and we changed nothing and got blown out at their place. Where are ether adjustments?
I saw Nagy may consider playing some zone next year which is music to my ears. Not because I think we should but because we are matching our style to our personnel and giving us some different options when things aren't working for us.
I don't think there's any question our guys played tight tonight. Giving UIC that confidence in the first 10 minutes really made this game a lot harder than it otherwise could have been. We had the crowd that could have gotten rolling and we just gave them NOTHING to get excited about. Such a letdown as this really felt like the season we turned the corner and put together a run of sustained post season success. Maybe we win a few games in the NIT and carry it into next year but man what a missed opportunity this season was.

Saying we were "fake good" is way too harsh. But saying we weren't nearly as good as we/many thought is spot on. I'll look forward to the NIT - as if I have a choice - and await the discussions about next year's squad. We have a terrific coach and three solid Freshmen (returning) who saw a lot of PT this year. Love will be the only effective/returning and starting upperclassman and competition from the transfer and red-shirt plus the new recruits should be fun to watch.

that big d, is the most meaningless piece of nothing that you could post. dominated the hl. horse hockey!!! if northern Kentucky beats uic that will be their third ncaa in four years. right?? well, they will be considered by anyone outside the hl as the dominant program in the hl. the elite team. the number one team in this league. what, 5 years in the league and just like butler and then valpo they have passed us by. If league expansion occurs it will not be us chosen. I can almost guarantee that.
the names are changed but the opinion expressed is the same one that I have argued against for years. you people who are unhappy with where this program is, well just quit your bitchin. we win 20 games dang near every year. we are usually one if thebetter teams in our league. in the immortal words of lex luthor, “what more could anyone ask”??
well, there is that danged post season problem. div i now, what 32-33 years? and what do we have to show for it?? three, count em, three appearances in the dance. 30+ years and zero, yes zero, wins in the dance. I am not gonna do the research, but I would bet there have been a number of teams who have gone div i since 1990 who have more appearances and actually won a game or two. Shoot nku has been div I 5-6 years and if they win their next game they will have as many ncaa appearances as we have had in 30 years!!
and yet, we who think this program flopped again are the unreasonable ones. we are the ones who expect too much. we are the ones who just need to quit our bitchin!!
btw, big d. in case you have not noticed, today with the exception of guaranteeing a spot in the nit, being regular season champion means nothing. absolutely nothing!! the only thing that matters is who comes out of the post season tournament. and fact is, we do a crappy job of that!

big d, you may not like reading what mre said that we are a “fake good” team but I get his point and he is right on . we have zero, count em, zero wins against a top 100 team in kenpom rankings. best win was against wku who is 114, unless I missed someone. in fact they are our only win against a team in the top 1/3 of that ranking, about the top 140 ranked teams. we have no credible win that shows we are a “good team”. we want us to be but you cannot “prove it in court”.
second, Jerry says we are a “a good program “. well we all want us to be. but good is a lot like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder. our average ken Pom the past five years has been 138. that puts us solidly in the middle 1/3 of div i programs. we almost never dance, I do not remember a top 50 team we have beaten in the past five years. shoot, right now I cannot remember a top 100 team we have beaten though I may have forgotten some.
there are good mid majors out there, but they do all those things I just said we do not do. witchita State, Memphis, Gonzaga, dayton. there are others who are good mid major programs. We have not done what is necessary to earn that distinction, though heaven knows we have tried for 30+ years.

Kieth, no one is happy about this loss so do not try to paint my post into I’m a happy with the status quo type bull shit. Everyone here knows how I feel about our program and the need to improve. Hell I’ve personally helped buy out 3 of our past underperforming coaches so we could try to improve as a program. I don’t just bitch and moan about everything like you, I put my money where it matters. I am also not going to belittle successes we do have because they are not the successes I feel like we should have had. We aren’t going to the Dance this year. I’m not happy about that. We are going to our third straight post season. The first time ever as a program. We just won the conference outright for the first time ever as a program. Those are successes. They aren’t the successes you or I want but to belittle those success is BS.
And for the record, Dayton, Gonzaga, Witchita State, and Memphis are not in mid-major conferences. Comparing us to them is completely idiotic. Most of those schools spend more on their basketball programs alone than we can afford to spend on our entire athletic department combined. If you want that kind of success for Wright State you could do much more for our program by writing a check to the university than all of your constant bitching and moaning. Good night.
